NRL Players and family members in hot water

I've got $10 on bipolar.
That would be bullshit. Bipolar doesn't make you a violent dickhead.

This would be more towards the psychopathic range of issues...

Since retiring from professional rugby league in 2009, he has taken part in several community projects targeting domestic violence and promoting multiculturalism in sport.
He is an ambassador for White Ribbon, Australia's campaign to stop violence against women.

He's obviously involved in these things because he wants to be, he was also the first winner of the Women in League Favourite Son, so it would be a huge shock if he's just been a hypocrite this entire time. Not a good look, but there still only allegations at this point, I'll wait till he has his day in court before I make any judgements. It could be true and he's a huge wanker, it could be false allegations by a bitter partner to tarnish his reputation. I'm interested to see what the court rules on this.

Back to the Lodge, did I read correctly that his parents are cops? It could come back to the "smacked too much or not enough" debate.

If his parents were disciplinarians, it's possible they made a point of being quite strict with him. Like a kid who's parent is their teacher, often they deliberately go a bit harder on them purely so there is no perception of the kid getting a free ride. If this happened with Lodge, he may have grown up with the mindset of rebelling against authority. Smacked too much.

Conversely, his parents may have been in a position to have the authorities go easy on him. Maybe not even intentionally - maybe just being police officers meant that colleagues and others in a position of disciplinarian preferred to give the kid the benefit of the doubt. Consequently, a spoilt shit who thinks he can get away with anything. Not smacked enough.e’s a good person. He is a good person, deep down" it suggests to me the latter.

This from El Masri's ex:

“Hazem never as much as raised his voice at me, even in an argument,” she said in a statement to Fairfax Media. “We separated two years ago, but have remained the best friends.”

Ms Abousamra said believing her ex-husband would ever strike a woman was “incomprehensible”, and that she had been the primary disciplinarian of their children because he “just didn’t have the heart”.

“Hazem’s respect for women is beyond reproach as is his character,” she said.

He's one of the few players that I'd give the benefit of the doubt to. Despite the fact that he's Doggies Bro.

Hazem El Masri and new wife split before domestic violence claim

New article with some actual details about what happened.
The 39-year-old had been married to former receptionist Douah El-Cherif, 25, for just over a year but the relationship had disintegrated by July, two separate sources have confirmed.
The pair had been living together at a waterfront apartment in the Sutherland Shire until the split and the alleged assault occurred during a disagreement over property and living arrangements, Fairfax Media understands.

El Masri had left the Illawong apartment and moved back with family members following the split, while Ms El-Cherif moved into a duplex home in Bankstown that he owned, on the assumption that it would be temporary.
On Monday night, El Masri met Ms El-Cherif at the Bankstown home to get the keys back.
An argument broke out in the bedroom, Ms El-Cherif said, and she was allegedly pushed by El Masri as he tried to get his keys back, causing her to hit her head on some furniture and sustain a scratch.

In El Masri's first court appearance on Thursday, his lawyer Chris Murphy said the former rugby league player recorded the incident on his mobile phone.
In the recording, the alleged victim "says that her call to police was a prank call and says that she had to go to police or she'd get fined", he said.
El Masri also attended the police station on Monday night, believing his estranged wife was there to explain the call to police. By 4am the next day, he had been charged with common assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
It's understood police took photographs of Ms El-Cherif's alleged scratch but she declined to give a video statement.

Alleged scratch... Sounds like a load of shit. If it's proven that she made it up hopefully the cops come down hard on her

I remember reading about the Bulldogs scandal in a book (by Greame Hughes) I've got and there was a section dedicated to the 2004 Coffs Harbour investigation. A woman rang the Bulldogs player manager crying that they had been set up and that the allegations were completely false and off course they were dismissed. They tried to keep her one the phone but she hung up and never rang them again.

He also says how disgusted he was at how the Bulldogs were treated when it happened. The media had nothing to really back anything up and they went for the kill and every Bulldogs player was a suspect to them. The players personal lives and their famalies were shattered for a while, parents of Bulldogs players and Canterbury fans copped abuse everywhere for a while after it happened.
