Breaking: South Sydney Rabbitohs have sacked Kirisome Auva'a after a second breach of the NRL’s illicit substance policy @telegraph_sport
CRONULLA enforcer Andrew Fifita has been issued a consorting notice by police on Wednesday.
“Police from the gang squad Strike Force Raptor have issued a consorting warning to a 27-year-old NRL player under section 93x of the Crimes Act,” police said in a statement.
The official “consorting warning” was issued by Strike Force Raptor, which was set up in 2009 to target outlaw motorcycle gangs and led to 1800 arrests.
NRL boss Todd Greenberg said that the police warning to Fifita was another reminder to players and officials to be careful who they associate with.
“We are determined to work with police to ensure that criminal elements do not infiltrate our game,” Mr Greenberg said.
In a possible blow to the Sharks ahead of their massive minor premiership clash with Melbourne this weekend, the forward isn’t the first player issued with a warning from NSW police for consorting with convicted criminals.
Corey Norman, Junior Paulo and James Segeyaro were also in hot water after being photographed having dinner with bikies and accused criminals.
Fifita made headlines in his only Origin game this year when he was sin binned for dragging a Queensland player by his neck from a celebratory huddle.
Cronulla forward Andrew Fifita was issued a consorting notice by police for visiting in jail the man who killed teenager Thomas Kelly in Kings Cross.
Police handed Fifita the notice on Wednesday after it emerged he had made numerous trips to Cessnock jail to see Kieran Loveridge this year.
Loveridge is serving a 10-year sentence for the manslaughter of Mr Kelly who was killed by a single, savage blow as he began his first night out in Sydney's Kings Cross.
The Sharks and NSW prop's notice was issued by officers attached to Strike Force Raptor, the proactive, high-visibility police unit set up to target bikie gangs following a fatal brawl at Sydney Airport in March 2009.
Channel Seven reported that Loveridge now has links to the Lone Wolf bikie gang.
"Police from the gang squad Strike Force Raptor have issued a consorting warning to a 27-year-old NRL player under section 93x of the Crimes Act 1900," the police said.
Under Section 93 of the Crimes Act 1900 a person can be charged with consorting if they "habitually consort" with convicted offenders and if they consort with those convicted offenders "after having been given an official warning".
If someone is charged and then convicted of consorting with criminals it carries a maximum jail term of three years.
Fifita's prison visits to Loveridge were first reported by Channel Seven but have been independently confirmed by Fairfax Media.
Paul Carter sacked.
He likely won't be playing in the NRL anytime soon. I see a stint over in England.
As if we needed confirmation but what an absolute dick head. Has rocked a tribute to the guy on his strapping last few weeks apparently. Disgraceful.I read somewhere that Fifita was visiting Kieran Loveridge in prison.
Kieran Loveridge is the arsehole that king hit & killed Thomas Kelly in 2012.
EDIT: Added link to the story.
Cronulla Sharks Andrew Fifita warned for visiting killer Kieran Loveridge
you underestimate the intelligence of himIn Fifitas defence however, they were mates long before that incident happened.
If they were close you could understand that he wants his mate out of jail, I don't think he's dumb enough to be saying what the guy did was right.
Of course he will ... they'll just backdate the suspension so he doesn't miss a gameIn his defence, he's a Sharks player so he won't be punished.
