NSW team for game 3

i honestly believe ennis should be the 9 and should have been from the start. gidley as captain is pretty funny but my paranoia didnt allow me to post anything anywhere just in case someone in NSW's selection team thought i had a point :) adding to that NSW miss the point totally about origin and 'belly ache' is the wrong coach for origin, too tactical, origin is about desire. Here is the team i would play.

1. Hayne
2. Morris
3. Jennings
4. Morris
5. Monaghan
6. Campese
7. Wallace
8. Poore
9. Ennis
10. Weyman
11. Laffanchi
12. O'Donnell
13. Tongue (c)

14. Gidley
15. Creagh
16. Learoyd-Lahrs
17. ? another form forward

coach: Laurie Daley

mind you this team would struggle in game three this year and probably next year too but if the desire is there maybe qld wouldnt have walked up the middle of field so many times as they did last night, and they should be in the match without relying on QLD errors. I know a lot of people will laugh at the tongue selection as captain, but i think this season he is proving how tough he is, and that is inspiring.

All these different combinations, its just like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Anyway, I know it won't be selected like this but this is what I would pick.

Yeah I picked Kimmorley, but basically you do that if NSW is desperate to avoid 3-0.

If not, then they have to blood new players with a view to 2010 and beyond. And the questions will be:
1) Do we see Peter Wallace as a long term option for halfback or five-eighth?
2) Do we see Robbie Farah as our long term hooker or should we give Ennis a go?
3) Is Gidley really our best captain option or should we use someone else as captain, put Gidley on the bench and get the most out of him?

EXACT convo I was having with a mate today. To answer them:

1) No. Wallace had a tough gig last year and even tougher this year. I think it was a huge ask for him to compete against such a quality opposition with the experience he has under his belt. He's got a bit to go IMO. Simply, the signs were not there. If he played well and showed promise in a losing side it would be a different story. I don't think he's the answer. Not yet.

2) Farah is a great footballer. He is crafty and is skillful. He could possibly conjure up a victory based on creativity and skill. They need a good coach with a great game plan to do this. I don't think Farah can get out there and just rip in. On the other hand, Ennis - his a gun. No doubt about it, he's a good player - he has some chinks in his armour but he's the type of player that NSW need imo. He could really fire up the NSW blues and cause some niggle with the QLDERS. I think he needs a shot but do you blood him in a dead rubber game and then pick him in the WHOLE series next year and beyond? (ala C. Smith?) Obviously we succeeded down the track but it could be a risky move for NSW. Tough one.

3) NO, NO and NO. I thought it was almost a joke how Gidley was appointed captain. You don't give those away. Admittedly, I'm not sure if there were any other leaders in the team - they need a veteran. How many caps did he have in origin? How many did he start? Jesus. Bench please. Hayne is a GUN. Seriously. Surely Hayne has to go FB.

The obvious captaincy choice for experience was Bailey. But as we saw, he played one game and got injured. He's no guarantee to be there all series, and he's older than sin.

Dare I say it....Gallen?

There is no other choice!

It's so lame. NSW have no veterans. Jesus. Their time will come. Personally. The year civo and Price retire rep footy. I believe that is when NSW have the best chance to start something

Hindmarsh would make a great SOO captain IMO.

That is what I was thinking. I reckon they need Hindy now.

Theres a guy at work that gets pretty defensive when i give him shit about nsw. they could use that defence in place of farah... m i right XD

Only two props? It's like everyone seems to be competely underrating them these days.

am surprised so few of you are putting watmough in the team for game 3. i'm a qlder, and cant stand him, but he was their best forward in limited minutes and def a player i'd be happy for nsw to leave out......

Looking towards next year:

1. Hayne (IMO, Gidley has done bugger-all in games 1 & 2 - he's overrated)
2. Morris
3. Cooper (defend v Inglis)
4. Jennings
5. Morris
6. Soward (I think he's playing really great. Or Mullen)
7. Pearce (looking to next year - Wallace isn't Origin level. Simple as that)
8. Poore
9. Farah (More creative & versatile than Ennis)
10. Weyman
11. Waterhouse (more effective than Stewart or Whatmough)
12. Creagh
13. O'Donnell

Wing, Kite, Bailey, Stewart

(It'll be interesting next year if Idris is in the centres. He and Hayne will be as lethal as Hodges and Inglis)
