NSW - Will they do it?

I don't know about the other folk on here, but i reckon Mullen is class. I'll be very worried if he's in the halves with Wallace.

Think outside the Square LOL. Yeah like having Bird at 5/8 last year. Yep.

Gidley a better play-maker than Campese? OK Jeb.

Did you also stop to think about the kicking game? QLD have Smith, Lockyer and Thurston. That's awesome. NSW will have just Wallace and Farah according to your team - Gidley isn't much of a kicker.

Bird was the Australian 5/8th at the time you idiot [icon_lol1. Another example of not thinking outside the square [icon_wink

As far as playmaking goes, well whoever is better, there's not much in it. You lose not much either way.

As far as kicking goes, well if you can't work out a kicking game with Wallace and Farah there, then we just may as well leave the shield at QRL Headquarters. Gidley is there as a back-up anyway.

But I repeat, NSW is shit!!!!!!!!

So you're gonna have Jarryd Hayne, who along with Gidley is the best player NSW have at the moment, sitting out on the wing?

No where else to put him unless you want to WASTE a position in the halves.

I remember the exact SAME argument last year regarding Hunt and Slater Origin 1. So what did they do? Put Slater at fullback and Hunt at 5/8 - As a result, QLD's attack was shit and they lost the game.

NSW are hopefully not stupid enough to do what QLD did in Origin 1 last year.

Can you not see the logic in having a specialist 5/8? Seriously?

I can see the logic but it's not like Gidley is a nuffie at 5/8th. He has played that position before and done very well at it, it's not like he hasn't played 5/8th for years. And if NSW pick Campese, as a Queenslander I will be very happy because at Origin level I reckon he would get smashed. The games in which he is dominant are always against poor opposition, he goes missing in the big games.

Moving Hunt to 5/8th was totally different to this. Hunt showed in the Broncos trials that he is no 5/8th, dunno why Queensland did it to be honest. Gidley on the other hand could play 5/8th every week at club level if required.

NSW lose nothing putting Gidley at 5/8th, and gain plenty with Gidley at 5/8th and Hayne at fullback. Rocky's just got the attitude of the NSW selectors of the last 3 series icon_thumbs_u

So Gidley has no creativity or brains?

And why would you not want Hayne at fullback?

Righto, we'll leave it at that. I'll say one last thing - As a Queenslander I am more concerned about Hayne at fullback and Gidley at 5/8th, than I am about Gidley at fullback and Campese/Mullen at 5/8th.

I agree with rock. NSW need a real 5/8th and half this year. However i dont think mullen is the solution. It has to be campese at 6, if its not then jebs idea has merit, because gidley is far better than mullen

Who cares who the NSW team picks it will not be enough simple as that. Farah hasn't got the nuts for Origin and Ennis will try to win the game on his own so every player the pick won't cut the mustard.

Mullen is a gun but I think he might be a tad too small when coupled with Wallace in the halves. I would pick either one with Campese in the halves. Gidley has been the comp's most consistent player for 3 years playing fullback why the hell anyone would want to shift him to a position he is less effective in for a game as important as Origin is beyond me. I completely agree with Rock here, Gidley is their best player and you don't shift your best player.

It's just funny that NSW "best player" in Gidley wouldn't even make the starting side if Stewart wasn't injured - they would have to play him in the halves or at hooker off then bench.

You can bet the NSW selectors will make at least 1, if not 2 dumb selections, especially in the forwards for Game 1. Whatever the Blues do, whoever they select, if they don't win game 1 they are buggered. Qld have the talent and the mentality to win from 1-0 down, NSW do not.

on a diff note, learoyd-lahrs played great today. wouldnt look out of place on the nsw bench

He only looked good running into Jones all day. He's hardly going to get an easy ride up against the QLD pack.

he wasnt running into jones when he was carving up in the middle of the park.

isn't he a Queenslander? i ask because he debuted for the Broncos IIRC

I'd stay with Gidley at FB, and I'd put Hayne in the centres with Lyon or Cooper.
