NSW - Will they do it?

Hammo if you think in terms of all round game Stewart is a better fullback than Gidley your just plain silly. Gidley is a much better defender and with the ball is amazing, That also frees the bench spot up for Dean Young who is long overdue a Blue Jersey. I agree on Mateo they could play either G.Stewart or Gallen lock and Mateo as the utility.

NSW have to pick Campese to be any chance. Anasta can't cut it, and Barrett is past it and is only ever good for going himself.

1.Stewart
6.Campese
7.Wallace
9.Farah
13.Mateo

14.Gidley

Firstly; the argument "you'RE just plain silly" is purely speculation.

Secondly; why would you play the game's best utility at fullback, therefore reducing your options?

Thirdly; Young? Why? They have better hooker's in Farah/Ennis, better 5/8ths in Barrett/Campese and lock's in Mateo/Gallen. So what is Young to play? The only place I'd put him is in the second row/bench forward.

In short, whilst he's a great player, I don't see a spot for him. Maybe at a stretch, drop Gallen and throw him in as a possible Mateo replacement if Mateo is injured.

Thats the point with Young he is your 6 and 9 emergency in case of injuries, in Origin I see no value in a back reserve especially when you have an excellent forward who can fill in 6 or 9 adequately if injuries occur.

I agree, that's what a bench utility should be - someone who can play in the backs if there is an injury, and in the backrow/front row if there aren't any. Don't think he needs to play at hooker though, Farah and Ennis can both do it for 80 minutes. I don't think they should ever be taken off if it's just one of them in the side.

That is what I am saying though. Farah/Ennis should play 80 minutes but if they or the 6 is hurt Young can fill in and if you have Mateo in the backrow/bench somewhere he can play in the backline if required. Picking backs on the bench in Origin is pointless if they can't play backrow, so why not pick a backrower who can play 6 or 9 and then if a winger or centre gets hurt (rare compared to forwards) shift G.Stewart, Gallen, Leffranchi type player into the centres.

Much like a QLD side with the like of Harrison or Costigan on the bench. They can both play hooker or 5/8th if needed.

Except neither of those players have been/would be selected for those roles [eusa_eh

Berrigan was the only player ever selected in the manner FCB is talking about, Hunt to a lesser extent.

Yep and both Berro and Hunt worked well in that role, I see no value in picking a light back as a bench player in Origin.

Berrigan is god, BRING BACK BERRIGAN! One of my fav players ever <3

Pretty sure harrison has played a few games (for the Rooters and Tits) with the 6 on his back.

Sure, but never selected at Origin level with that in mind. Pretty sure we'd score negative points and would have just as much a chance with Stagg at 5/8th!!! [icon_lol1.

No one is as bad as Staggy at 5/8th.

Once again I don't see NSW winning unless they jump off into a big lead.
Our backline just has too much points in them.

I'd go Wallace and Barrett if I had to choose.

Bingo. That's why Bowen was the most stupid selection.

For NSW I can't see them going back to Kimmorley (even though his form has been fantastic), so Wallace would have to be the number seven. As for the hooking spot, it depends on how they want to play. If they want to try and blow QLD off the park, Farah would be the pick but if they want a grittier style, Ennis is the man.

1. Gidley 2. Hayne 3. Lawrence 4. Cooper 5. Monaghan 6. Campese 7. Wallace 8. Kite 9. Ennis 10. Bailey 11. Heighington 12. Laffranchi 13. Gallen

14. Mateo 15.Creagh 16.Perry 17. A backrower of some sort.. Dean Young, Tupou?
