Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

12th vs. 9th.

Both teams have had very similar seasons. Pushing a lot of their better juniors into Qld/NSW Cup respectively and relying a lot on their Under 18s.

Brisbane are a frustrating team to watch. Plenty of raw talent but mentally weak and tend to leak points when things go wrong. It's fairly common among NYC sides but what separates us is our mediocre pack & halves pairing.

Looks like coach Richards has identified this and has made a lot of big changes. As it stands they look like this...

Molo - 2 x time U18 Qld rep who would have toured with the AIC squad if it wasn't for a busted shoulder. A big bopper who's getting better with every match and is really hard to stop close to the line.

Lee - AIC grad. who's more of a backrow but has the talent at this level to fill in at hooker. Was a big part behind our miracle comeback.

Frei - Coming back down from QCup, Frei is one of our best juniors coming through and was one of our best last year. A real work-a-holic who does the little 1%ers really well.

Timu - Our most destructive forward in NYC history which isn't bad when the likes of Tariq, McGuire, Hala & Lui have played. Our star of the side.

Binge - Another player who is returning from QCup. Was the official Broncos NYC player of the year in 2011 and is finally getting a chance to play in his natural position in the backrow. A real handful.

Malley - Our Dallas Johnson esque player.

If they perform, I reckon we could take apart the baby Sharks at home.

Anyone going to the game? Would love to get impressions of it.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

Big game for our boys if they want to make the top 8 as well. A win followed with the bye could see them just 1 point out of the 8 with a fair run into the semis

That Hegarty kid looked alright in the halves on Friday night

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

Haven't seen much of the team at all apart from Mitch Frei, who has been with Norths.

He looks like quite the prospect though, big fella and tough as anything for a nineteen year old - not afraid to take the tough runs up the middle or on the fringe. Surprised he couldn't crack the Broncos squad this weekend actually.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

Same, I would have preferred him over Lui.

I suppose Hook didn't want to blood too many prospects. He gave Lui a shot based on his age, experience etc. While Whitchurch was in better form and deserved a crack.

Hopefully both of them have big games. I reckon Frei will definitely come into the side next year.

6-6 in the 20s with the Sharks just scoring.

Caleb Timu scored his 14th try of the season.

33 gone.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

HalfTime

Cronulla 12
Broncos 6

Completion rate is killing us (59%) and once again we pay in the back end of the half.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

18-6 Cronulla.

44 gone.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

24-6

49 gone.

Miracle comeback time?

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

30-12

The guy we were talking about earlier, Mitchell Frei scores.

60 gone.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

Make that 30-18.

Do dreams come true?

Queensland U20 rep Corey Oates the try scorer on return from injury.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

Make it 30-22 with Francis Molo scoring and a kick to come.

Edit: Conversion successful 30-24.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

3 minutes to go.

Scores remain the same.

Re: Round 17 - U20 - Broncos v Sharks

And that's the game.

Cronulla Sharks 30 def. Brisbane Broncos 24 (Timu, Frei, Oates, Molo tries; Hegarty 4/4 goals)

New U20 coach for next year. You heard it here first. And he is a current QCup coach.
