[OFFICIAL] Anthony Milford to Broncos

Indeed, that is another one that really bothers me.

A clause is per definition, something that excludes mutual agreement. Either conditions are met, or they are not!

Like anything else, it may be subject to interpretation and if no agreement is reached, disputed in court, but there is no such thing as a mutual agreement clause.

EVERY contract can be dissolved under mutual agreement, there is no need for clauses!

Exactly. Why bother going to the trouble of getting the clause put in the contact if it needs to be mutual.

Any player can request a mutual release without the need of any clauses.

The clause, regardless of wording, was inserted for Milford's protection.
And reflects his mindset and the uncertainty of his situation when he signed.

Also, after signing Edrick Lee and Jack Wighton to massive deals. There's no way the Raiders have $1m free in the cap for 2014. Maybe in 2015
If they let Shillington and Tilse go or something.
There would be at least $800k tied up in Lee and Wighton's new deals.

Nothing has been reported as to the values, however Ricky desperately needed a PR win, so I shudder to think how much he was willing to spend.

Their deals would be huge.
The Raiders can preach 'loyalty', but the fact they signed before they could gauge market value, means their managers knew the deals were good.

Lee was linked with a move back to QLD, and a few clubs were circling Wighton.

The massive offer to Milford is just designed for public perception. Now the Raiders fans can't say the club didn't try everything to keep him.

Many many variables and unknowns to play out yet, not the least of which is how Milford is feeling when he returns from the World Cup.

Also the fact that we are offering him a spot in his preferred position in the halves, while the Raiders see him a fullback.

And Cornish and Campese are locked in as the Raiders halves next season. With McCrone moving into hooker.

If you look at the situation ambiguously.

The pros for moving back to Brisbane out way the pros of staying in Canberra.

Move to Brisbane:
- playing for the team you supported growing up.
- decent money
- back with friends and family
- playing in preferred position.
- the Darren Lockyer influence

Stay in Canberra:
- massive money
- his relationship with Papalii (maybe a few other players, but mostly Papalii).

The cons of both choices goes in brisbanes favour also

Brisbane Cons

- Further away from Papaali
- Griffin

Canberra Cons

- No family
- Shit City
- Shit Weather
- Shit fans
- Ricky Hypocrite Stuart
- Delirious Don Furner

Hook might not be the best coach, or have a crazy list of achievements.

But I've never heard a player say a bad word about him.
He is a good people manager and all the players love him, and love playing for him.

The same cannot be said about Ricky Stuart.

We just need the right supporting cast for Hook, which we are doing with some new trainers and assistants.

Raiders fans can believe what they want, but the truth is that Ricky Stuart divides playing groups.

He plays favourites, he creates a toxic environment and never takes responsibility for poor performances.
He blames the players.

He didn't have 'good' enough players at the Sharks.

He didn't have 'good' enough players at the Eels, &
he didn't have 'good' enough players with the Origin team.

And the Roosters had to sack him after the playing group couldn't stand to work with him anymore.

Unfortunately, I can only go off his NRL career of coaching my beloved broncos so at this stage I listed him as a con. That isn't to say I don't want to give him another crack with a bolstered line up and support team, I want him to succeed in 2014 and that, for me, requires at least some attractive, exciting football and a finals appearance.

The competition was so tight this year.

Our forwards were dominated all year, our halves struggled and fitness was an issue.

If you look at how many games we should have won/had in the bag with 5-10mins to go.
The game against the Storm at home.
Against Parra away.
The Warriors away
The Knights away.

If we learn to defend in the closing minutes, that's the difference between 12th and 5th.

And a lack of speed and finishers.

Maranta bombed half a dozen tries last season by either putting a foot in touch or trying to step inside when all he had to do was dive.

Speed was the killer though.
We made a lot of good line breaks but no one was supporting and we didn't have the speed to run the distance.

Hoffman was the fastest, and he's no speedster.
Reed, Maranta, Hodges, Kahu, Norman were all too slow.

I have a lot to say back but will hold off for another thread before we completely derail this one :)

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens when he's back and the excuses have run out.

First it's "just have to focus on finishing the Raiders season"

Then "just focusing on preparing for the World Cup"

Then "just focusing playing at the World Cup"

The Canberra Times gave away Milford's position when they said that Ayoub and Milford had turned down all requests from the Raiders about a meeting to re-sign him.

Hi,

I have checked the raiders forum (greenhouse) and they all admit Milford will be a bronco in 2014. They are hoping we'll release the Hoff in a straight swap and with some of the language and inuendo from the raiders, this could be the way it goes.

Is it just me or does it seem that the recent signing of mills and vidot in particluar will be because of this?

If Hoffman turned down a swap to the Bulldogs,
Who have a number of his kiwi mates, have Des Halser, and were coming off a Grand final appearance. There's no way he'd want to go to the Raiders.

The signing of Vidot and Mills was just logical.

We were really lacking backline depth last year. And with losing Norman and Berryman.

There's still questions marks over JYY, Kahu is injury prone, Maranta isn't first grade quality. And playing Glenn and Stagg at centre really limited attacking options.

But what Hook reiterated today is that Rugby league is a team sport, and it's his job to get the best 17 players on the field.
