Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

While what AP said is obviously a shit thing to say, reacting to it with personal insults or innuendo isn't any better. This whole Triple B affair is causing enough grief, infractions, thread bans, etc... as it is. Keep it civil please!

Re: [Rumour] Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Maybe AP was just wishing him good luck. It's tradition to tell actors to break a leg, and Boyd has won the lead role.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Well since you're wishing injury on him, at least I know all of your previous posts on the topic have zero credibility because you're clearly too blinded by hate to have a genuine discussion.
lol paint it however you want so you can justify it to yourself, i dont care.

Re: [Rumour] Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Neither do I, but it was worth pointing out.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

hmmm a three year contract. Does he intend to retire with Wayne...?

In all seriousness though, now that he is here and is our fullback, we just have to accept it an and embrace the fact that unlike some other clubs, we have a very good fullback in our team. Hopefully he can return to his best form and form a lethal combination with Hunt and Milford.

The thing that worries me though is that Boyd's/Bennett's sweeping attacking style is quite predictable and teams have done a good job on Boyd in recent years to shut it down. It only really worked effectively well during their Dragons premiership days, but since then teams have been able to defend it. Plus Boyd generally executes that play down the left side of the field better than the right. It's a bit like Inglis and South Sydney's attack, which looks a lot more smooth and fluent down the left as opposed to the right.

In saying that, now that Boyd's in the spine, I guess its more balanced. Since Boyd can execute a gameplan and plays a little more structured, it can hopefully allow Milford to play more free and off the cuff - which includes playing all over the field rather than staying stationary on the left edge.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Sweeping play = predictable
Hunt = slightly unpredictable
Milford = very unpredictable

Should be a good mix if all goes well

Agree. The more I think about it, the more I'm warming to it. Add McCullough in their too and that's a fairly dangerous spine. I believe McCullough was at his best when he was running out of dummy half. He had a massive start to the season, which coincided with the fact he was taking quick dummy half runs, dragging the opposition big men with him and creating space around the ruck. His form slightly dwindled as he stopped running from dummy half.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

funny, I didn't think anyone else noticed that hodges really hurts maccas form. I love him but they don't work well together.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

It's also worth pointing out that his coincided with the refs quitting on the monitoring of the ruck slowing down tactics... this hurt the Broncos a fair bit, as our mobile smaller pack was pretty adept at using the new ruck rules.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

True, Hodges sort of kept pushing McCullough out of dummy half, especially when McCullough seemed to identify some space which he could exploit. At times McCullough looked very frustrated with Hodges, but he couldn't say anything to his captain hahaha :laugh:. It looked even worse when Hodges coughed up possession with a very stupid play where he forces the play and ends up putting his team under pressure.

Maranta also looked good without Hodges in the team, and as soon as he returned, Maranta's confidence vanished big time.

That sweeping play is also the one used with Karmichael Hunt. It won the Dragons a premiership 6 years later, it's not a play that you just figure out how to stop. Like the commentators keep saying everytime it happens, it might be easy to see it coming, but when it's done correctly it's a lot harder to defend. In truth, how well it works is down to the forwards - they really need to burrow in and draw the defenders in tight so that there's room to go out the back.

This is most definitely what he intends to do.

Why not? People talk about McCullough as if he would be a good captain (not me). If he has leadership qualities, there's absolutely no reason why he shouldn't have a quiet word with Hodges and tell him that he's fucking up.

You think Cam Smith would let that shit fly?

Agree, but that play involving Boyd has been rather unsuccessful in recent years. Plus Khunt was better at it. He didn't just rely on that one play, he could sum up the situation that he was presented with by playing what's infront of him. He knew when to pass, kick or run himself. On top of that, the outside-inside ball from Lockyer-Thaiday-Khunt was magical, and is something the Storm have copied and take all the credit for.

But Cam Smith is the captain... he can say whatever he wants to anyone he wants. McCullough is not a captain... hence he can't say much to his captain.

Do you honestly think someone like Ryan Hinchcliffe would tell Smith what to do if he was screwing up? No. He wouldn't say anything because Cam Smith is his captain.

Gotta say Knights playmakers are ordinary which does not help the plays being set up. Mullen is inconsistent big time

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

That's true, but even if he wasn't, I am fairly confident that if someone kept getting in his way, prevented attacking opportunities and hurting the team, he'd say something.

Point is, Macca has played over 100 games in first grade now. If Hodges ***** up, the first time that's on him. But if it continues and Macca says nothing, then frankly it's on him just as much.
