There's no confirmation but we'll just have to assume it's done. I'm torn on this one, while I love the idea of watching Barba get a go at fullback under Bennett and reclaim some of the electric form of 2012, it could have turned out to be a similar season as 2014 (@fullback) and, in my opinion, the majority of us would call for him to be dumped if that was the case.

On the other hand we have a guy who has also won a Dally M and has played at all levels and been successful there. If he has started dealing with some of those demons that seem to have plagued him in recent years then I would say there's a chance he returns to much better form.

In the end we could be stuck with a low confidence Barba on the bench with a Boyd that runs away from bombs. Alternatively we could have Boyd back to his solid best and Barba slicing it up off the bench.

My guess it it would be Barba in the ISC and not off the bench in FG, he'd be a decent attacking dummy half but I can't see him defending well there.

This is assuming Boyd isn't just retiring ;)

Can't wait to have him on board, also totally agree with @Harry Sack who gives a flying **** what his relationship with Bennett is, all that matters is his performance and I reckon he'll star for us.

Despite everything, all of this activity coming out of Red Hill in the past few weeks is making me crave next season even harder. It is clear Bennett is stamping his authority in a big way, so it isn't like he is phoning it in leading to retirement. He is serious about getting us back where we should be.

If Boyd absolutely has to be apart of those intentions, so be it, but to sell decent performing players up the river is going a bit far.

Your opinion. I rate Boyd very highly, but I'm not going to argue till the cows come home. This argument bores me to death, it's just two sides going at each other relentlessly.

I rate Boyd, far ahead of Barba, and while I'm a big Barba fan as well, he's got one more season to really show his worth, if he can't he can go as well.

All in all, I'm very happy with everything Bennett has done so far, besides Waddell who is useless. I also think we've got a quality forward signing coming, and that's going to give us a very competitive team with a genuine shot at a premiership.

I can't wait for 2015.

I'm not exactly thrilled with the signing of Boyd, but there comes a certain point where you have to accept that the coach is in charge and trust his judgment.

There's no question at this point that in 2015 our squad will have been shaped in a major way by Bennett and if we fail, there should be little, if any, blaming of anyone else for the talent we have available.

It's really all come to a head with this signing, which, regardless what stance you took, we all knew would happen. And if not for '15, then definitely '16.

I think most people that are anti-Boyd have issues with one or more of the following:

his constant following of Benny from club to club, which says that while both he and the coach fit together well, it also means he isn't willing to be anywhere without him. It doesn't show that the man has confidence in himself as a person that he (essentially) can't live without Bennett. We all know how good a 'man-moulder' and father figure Wayne is, but the cord really should've have been cut long ago, post-Dragons imo.

His appearances in the media haven't done his image any good, which is what a lot of fans see and form opinion on. The infamous 'Yep' interview, the Grand Final 'Woo!', and the 'enjoy a good win' are exhibits A,B and C of just how much of dickhead he seems to be. Sure some people hate the media or are scared shitless in front of a camera, but your profession goes hand-in-hand with it so harden up and just do it ffs.

His career achievements, or maybe more specifically his rep career. Playing outside GI for pretty much his entire rep career has done both good and bad. He's scored a shitload of tries, which is good. The fact that he never gets much credit is the bad. It's generally accepted that all he has to do is catch and put down once Inglis does his thing. Which most of the time is true. Now I don't watch a lot of non-Bronco games (I do try to) so I don't really see how good other players are going so maybe I'm missing out the wonders of Boyd at club level. But to me, the guy isn't close to the top 10 fullbacks in the game. He floats between a solid player and a good player. But he did have an awful 2014 which could be due to:

His recent troubles. I don't want to go into it too far, mostly because I'll get the 'have you ever had depression' response thrown back at me which I can only answer no to and therefore 'lose' the argument. But it seems like a 2-3 week stint in 'rehab' isn't long enough to cure it or solve the issues causing it. It doesn't help that it came out after-the-fact, which is becoming more and more common nowadays, which doesn't help making the skeptics believe him or anyone else.

The way the club went about getting him. He was not an essential buy. The amount of and which players leaving vs the incoming players have turned a lot of fans off. It will become very clear next year just how bad Griffin went about his last year. Barba and Kennedy had seasons to forget for the most part, Hannant dropped and out of favour, Hoffman played out of position for 75% of the year and our benchies getting screwed over for game time. All those player have either left or won't be around for long. It shows that due to Griffin's awful ideas or bad blood with certain players meant they had nothing in their 2014 highlights to show Bennett. I believe Garbutt and/or Gavet were the only necessary purchase(s) which could have been achieved by only losing a few fringe guys and promoting some 20's in place of them. Would have been happy to give every player a year under Wayne and then reassess, considering they all were signed until the end of the season at least.

Needless to say I don't want him. I was willing to accept it if he played wing, but that was a pipe dream. I just don't like him in any way.

I'm not going to argue with anyone but Boyd is an Australina and QLD rep player. He has shown his worth time and time again. On his day he is up there with the best of them and I can't wait to see him play for us next year

I really wanted to see Barba get a chance to slim down and do his thing but to be honest with all of this and the fact that obviously Darius Boyd will most likely be the Broncos fullback next year I have decided to change my tune.


As long as next year we actually win I don't care who is upset by being ousted to other clubs.

If we don't win then yeah sure I will swear at the TV for another year. I can't even go to a game because I moved to the UK for a year. (I have brought my jersey with me and am trying to go to the game in Feb here though).

All I hope is that this year the plan isn't to turn everyone into the size/speed of a second rower and hope for the best.

Only one of them has won a Dally M, and it's not Boyd.
