re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

I think having Boyd is a good thing for the club for many reasons. I don't care that he is a dick to the media, he is a quite guy and a lot of people he plays with have stated that he takes a long time to warm to you. He comes from a past of neglect, if I came from that I would be wary of people to, especially the media who don't have your interest at heart. He has the right skill mix to be a weapon for us, he has a fair passing game, has pace, is strong, elusive at times. I for one think we have not seen his true potential. I would not be surprised to hear that locky has a hand in his development either. Im willing to see this play out and am optimistic with the clubs future.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Anyone know the price Boyd was signed for?

Actually think Boyd is a little better than Barba. Not by enough though.

Just as long as we don't lose Jayden I won't end up caring.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Only one of them has won a Dally M, and it's not Boyd.
He won the Fullback Dally M in 2010. You know, like DCE won the Dally M Halfback this year.

As opposed to the journalist award where people like Paul Rothfield make the choice ?

It's the grand final man of the match award btw, don't underplay it. That proves he can play well in the big games, Barba was useless in his only grand final.
He won the Provan Summons medal as well in that year, meaning people like you (the public) also thought he was the best player of the season.

Everyone knows my stance on Boyd. Even if I wanted to, I'm way too fat and unfit to do 180 backflips!

I didn't want him, don't believe he is needed for all the reasons @Allo wrote in his excellent post, and I am very afraid he will end up costing us Jayden Nikorima as well, as I do not for a moment believe Wayne will ever sack him from his cushy FB job.

Having said that, don't count on me for the "I told you so" be it in support or against my belief. He's here now, he will be wearing the Broncos jersey and given he didn't stomp anyone on the head, I will cheer him on to the field, celebrate his tries, applaud what he does well, and be grumpy whenever he doesn't perform... just like a true footy fan!

So... welcome back to the Broncos Darius, I hope you make me swallow my words!

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

You guys should try this, it's amazing, now I can go in to threads and not have to scan through 5-10 AP posts about how Barba is 100x better than Boyd.

Good idea, hit ignore on anyone who doesn't agree with you.

There's quite a large difference between disagreeing and rambling on in every thread about the same bullshit.

I disagree with Foordy on most things, but I still don't mind reading his posts, AP on the other hand..

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

In a grand final that is one of the biggest events on the Rugby League calendar and is an award won by some of the all time greats of the game. Try asking any of the players that have a CCM medal in their cupboard that the award doesn't mean much. If you told DCE that his CCM medal last year is nothing he would tell you to **** off.

Clutching at straws argument to me.

It's still just a man of the match award lol. You can try and talk it up all you want, but its still just man of the match.

oh and Dally M Player of the year != Dally M positional award.

One is the best player week in week out every week of the year, the other is a favourites award. Thaiday has a number of them, that shows how meaningless they can be.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Just want to throw my 10 cents worth into this melting pot ... There are players who leave our club and they're gone forever, they fade into that fog of players who never really belonged, never really owned that maroon and gold shirt.
There are other players ... and this is purely my opinion ... who, even when they're turning out for some other club, always look like the ones that got away.

In my book Darius Boyd is such a player, every time he banged that ball down over the line in Origin, I'm thinking he used to be one of ours, every time he made a monkey out of our defence I thought the same.
Now, for better or for worse, he's coming back to Suncorp ... where he belongs ... and I, for one, am expecting big things.

[h=1]After eight years, Darius Boyd reunites with his mother Rochelle.[/h]

IN the car driving towards his mother’s house on the Gold Coast, Darius Boyd wanted to pull over and turn around.“It’s very easy at the time to say: ‘I’m going to do this and do that’, but then when it came to the crunch, it was a lot harder to face those fears,’’ Boyd said.
Rochelle Boyd was waiting out the front of her house when her son eventually pulled into the driveway.
This was the moment one of rugby league’s bravest footballers had waited eight years for.

Hopefully that helps Darius mentally, it really should... Excited to see how he plays next year, back at home, reunited with his family, should be awesome.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Well one thing that has changed, he seems much more willing to talk to the media now. I think that two or three times since he checked in that he's had a good talk to the media, where before he would flat out ignore them.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Honestly getting this kind of stuff off his mind is going to allow him to focus on footy a lot better.

If his dad gave a shit he would reach out to him, instead he's gotta go looking for him which will probably end up with some awkward confrontation.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

His dad should have been there for him all along regardless of the family situation unless he doesn't know

Tiny bit harsh there old mate, maybe his Dad does give a shit but suffers like his son, maybe even more so coming from an older generation that doesn't show 'weakness'. There may be many reasons or none at all. Speculation about whether he cares or not could prove hurtful. No matter, like so many others I consider it brave that he first admits to depression, secondly he sort help and in a general sense, how important his actions are in demonstrating how to meet depression. I wish Peter Jackson had the chance to act the same but it was different in those days.

I had a bit of a laugh at this one.

re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Welcome back Darius, i look forward to watching you playing with the Broncs again and hopefully at the height of your powers as a fullback.

Someone made mention of the spine Brisbane are developing, and i have to agree very strongly with it. The top 2-3 teams ion the comp for the past few years all have had a strong and established spine to them.

Bennett has decided he must do the same thing and im delighted to see it coming to fruition. Lets hope we can see the majorioty of next seaosn with a spine of Boyd, Milford, Hunt and Mccullough and then judge whether they can lead us to another premiership or not?

Barba interest me however, at this stage it seems he will be on the bench. has anyone thought what he could do from there a la Granville; coming on at specific times to replace/augment Mccullough and give us some speed and footwork from dummy half?

Just a thought to put out there to the group..?

The only thing that concerns me about this is his defence in the middle of the ruck.

Macca plugs up the middle pretty well usually, but i can't say with any confidence whether or not Barba would be able to do the same.
