Origin 2014 Chat

Lets not kid ourselves, Mal is playing the long game with DCE, getting him used to the Origin stage, but when you clearly haven't been TRAINING with DCE in the halfback role alongside JT, they have barely any symmetry and that was very evident tonight. DCE had a very average game, quite frankly and JT was our worst on ground.
Yeah obviously JT's shocker didn't help DCE but if you're going to go in with a halfback and no props on the bench and your starting halfback gets injured early and you still can't muster any cohesion or combination in your halves then what was the point? Cronk getting injured sucked but it was the only scenario that justified DCE's selection. And even with that scenario playing out, our halves still looked terrible. Terrible in isolation, terrible in combination. We needed some gorram props tonight - we don't have the kind of pack anymore where we can afford to have the 14 jersey given out as an encouragement award.

I agree we needed more props but when you've got dumb as dogshit bench selections like Papalli happening, what can you honestly hope for?

Hannant and McG would have been huge for QLD tonight.

Not singling out Paps specifically, but between him, Guerra, Gillett and Teo, we just lacked some grunt up the middle.

Tough ask for DCE to assume full time play making duties but disappointing from him and JT.

Ah well. The series is alive yet...

Reynolds will get 2 weeks for his spear with an early guilty plea. They have the bye this week so he is out round 13 and 14.. that means hes out origin 2 right?

Would prefer he isn't tbh. Would love to see the look on the little ***** face when he loses.

The halves are almost literally just there to shuffle the ball to Hayne...though Reynolds is at least an excellent support player.

The return of Pearce? Maybe Daley will think the hometown advantage will nullify his shittiness.

Slater - Very good game, he was dangerous all night.
Boyd - Has the easiest job in the world on the left wing, needs to do more work in defense.
Inglis - He tried his butt off but mostly contained, needs to be allowed to interchange with Billy randomly in play.
Hodges - Played very well, left it all out there and couldn't have done much more.
Tate - Dependable as always, gave it his all.
Thurston - Mixed game, lifted in the second half and almost brought us home but was trampled in the first half repeatedly.
Cronk - His organization was clearly missed after breaking his arm early.
Scott - Was phenomenal as always at origin level and every time he was on, we won the forward battle.
Smith - Busy as always and a massive effort after being injured.
Myles - he and Scott and a world class one two punch, our intensity lifted ten fold with his return in the second half.
McQueen - In a game of epic performances, he was ok, will be replaced by Thaiday for game two.
Gillett - I thought he had his best origin game and tried very hard but needs to look to offload.
Parker - Great to see him backing up as the next charge after our one two in our props, would have loved more offloads.

DCE - He tried hard but looked frustrated and not part of the well oiled spine we are used to seeing, but will be better after training next game if he makes it, worryingly looked injured post-game.
Papalli - Need more from him.
Guerra - Played very well on debut, showed why so many of us rate his line running. Quality debut.
Teo - Lifted the team when he came on, he is a quality impact player, wish he still played for the Broncs.

Queensland by 24, Cronk goes off injured in the first 15minutes and DCE comes on to show why he owns the 7.

I'm not sure if it's been pointed out to you yet just how much of a **** you are

....sooo, just in case it hasn't

You are a ****.

Probably one of the best things for me tonight was the pre-game entertainment.

The reliving of the great Origin moments. The tribute to Artie. Billy Moore bringing out the Origin shield and firing up the crowd with the Queenslander chants.

It was awesome. I loved every second of it.

Despite the loss, it was still a great game of footy.

Full credit to Suncorp, that lighting is spectacular. As if that Stadium could get any better.

Gillett and McQueen have to go, neither did enough imo. I want to see Thaiday and Te'o start in the back row, both can run a line a lot better and have more punch. Need another specialist prop, there was a definite downturn in our play once Scott went off. Problem being all the usual suspects (Hannant, Shillington, McGuire, Kennedy) are all playing like shit, so I don't know what we do there. Guerra toiled, he looks like an origin player.

JT wasn't too bad, those conversions would have been nice. Inglis needed the ball way more often. Late in that second half Te'o had a great opportunity to give him some space and went himself.

We have a lot more improvement that NSW do. I just don't know how many more times this team can come back from having their backs against the wall. I've never been more worried than right now about losing a series.

I don't think we will see wholesale changes but a prop on the bench please. Need some more size up the middle to get a roll on. Gillett dropping that ball with the line open just fucked us. I think it is getting to the point where the Blues just want it more and our guys are a year older and a year slower. Can still come back from this but it will be huge if they do. DCE in doubt for Origin 2 throws a huge spanner in the works. Smith carrying an injured could be the killer. Guerra looked pretty good. Impressed by him. Boyd was pretty good as well. He looked like he was actually running the ball back hard instead of crabbing it.
