Origin bolters

its very different. lots of things come into that, including money, lifestyle in the city, future for family etc. this is 3 games a year, regardless of where u live, how much u get paid etc

No comparison

Article on fox sports says Meninga has already earmarked him for QLD games in the future. I have no idea how hes going to play against the state he supports

No different to players who grow up as fans of one club and end up playing for another.
:!:
great point.
Just like MG father how is a die hard Dragon's ( he bleeds red and white )supporter but how did he support when we played them????????? the Bornco's why cos his son plays for them.

you guys are kidding yourself. its totally different... you can switch teams midseason if u want ffs!

It's a professional game.. you are kidding yourself if you think he wouldn't put in a 100% effort.

i dont remember saying he wouldnt put in 100%? i said i have no idea how he could do it, being a qlder myself i could never do it.

Here's an indication of MG passion for QLD if that's what in question, He would be in NSW rite now and playing for the Rooster's with a top 25 gaurntee on more money. But he stayed here in Qld cos he loves it.

IMO it's absolutely no different to which club you supported as a kid. As a kid you didn't give a shit about money, lifestyle, coach etc, you just loved your team and were thrilled if they won and devastated if they lost.

That continues as you grow up, though generally the emotion lessens a bit (depending on the game, obviously grand finals etc are something different).

But seriously, a player who grows up, ends up being signed by another club and plays against the club they loved as a kid in a grand final...do you think it causes conflict in them? Maybe. But they still do the job and would still be elated when they win and devastated if they lost.

Absolutely no different to Origin. Gillett might well remember his supporting the Blues as a kid, but when playing for QLD, he wouldn't give a shit about who he used to support. He'd be all about winning for his team.

here here !!And really lets face i love the big fella but i dont think he will be playing origin this year Next year if he continues his good form he will be a walk up start, lso its just another thing NSW will piss and moan about and there is nothing better than reminding NSW what they could of had if they were any good or there state was half as good as QLD.

i think thats bull. state of origin means alot more to some players than club games, u can see it in the way they play. players like hannant, crocker, tate etc look like they would die for the jersey, yet have no qualms about leaving their club for better money. i dont think any QLDer would switch to play for NSW if money was thrown at them

Meh, that's as much the occasion of Origin as it is the team they're playing for IMO.

+1.

Both would be massive highs, on one hand something every kid who plays league dreams of playing Origin, for either state. But these guys have been training since october for the premiership, I think it woudl be more rewarding.

TBH I'd love to do both! [icon_lol1.

And I honestly think most players would just love to play Origin. So if they got selected for the "other" state they would still play it as desperately as they could.

Ask any player which they would prefer, a premiership win for their club or an origin series win....99.9% of them would say premiership win.

Agreed. I remember Sam Thaiday's post-game interview after the '06 Grand Final when Vossy asked him how it compares to the 2006 Origin win. Without hesitation he said "mate this is better".

Such as Ben Hunt, was a sharks fan as a kid.

Both Hodges and Thaiday were New South Wales fans growing up.

Two of our most passionate players, so people should stop having doubts about the whole Gillett situation.

I'm with ya

I get where Coxy and Rock are coming from and I whole heartedly agree that there would be many players who do what you guys are saying - and there is nothing wrong with that.

I for one if I were in that situation - NEVER play for NSW. Clearly, QLDER feels the same way. Some people are more crazy about Origin than others - I definitely agree a title is the most rewarding thing in RL but Origin just brings out my bloodlust. As far as I'm concerned NSW is the mortal enemy and I would watch QLD win 100 games in a row and still be as passionate and wanting a 101th win in a row.
