Origin in 3D

All very well having these huge TV's, but plenty of people (us included) put these huge panels in a small room and sit too close.

You need some distance to really appreciate how nice they are.

FTR I have a 40" TV in a fairly sizeable lounge room. I don't need to turn my head side to side to enjoy the whole screen.

Some videophiles laughed at me when I said I was wanting a 40" screen. "For your living room you need at LEAST 50 inches or you won't appreciate it".

Yeah....right.

Fact is a lot of content (most in fact) is SD. And then there's DVDs.... I already notice they are more grainy and unclear on my Full HD 40" panel...at 50" I could probably pick individual pixels on standard FTA and Foxtel (non-HD) broadcasts.

Blech.

the best deal around at the moment IMO is the samsung 1080p 40" LED for $1400, with free Blu-Ray player + free Samsung Surround Sound System via redemption.

my lady friends parents just bought it and its a good looking tv from what ive seen.

+1.

It's the same model (well, 2010 update) as my LCD variety TV which I paid $300 more for in December.

*sobs*

I love it. Has ethernet port, which I use to access my media server to play perfectly legitimately obtained video and music files...

i wont buy a 3d tv until you can watch 3d without having to wear ridiculous - and ridiculously expensive - glasses.

On this whole topic of 3D tvs, can someone explain why they can show a 3D movie at the cinema, on the same screen/projector they use for normal movies, with just some cheap 3D glasses you return at the end, yet to get the experience at home you need:

1. An overpriced 3D TV
2. An overpriced 3D compatible Blu Ray player
3. An overpriced pair of 3D glasses

The cynic in me says "cha ching goes Panasonic/Sony/Samsung". But surely there's a technical explanation of some kind.

i cant wait for the Nintendo 3DS to be unveiled - its doing 3D without having to wear glasses, so that very well could point to how TVs will do it eventually. of course that would mean TV manufacturers not being able to sell overpriced glasses, so theyll wait til the very last minute to adopt the glasses-less 3D.

3D glasses will probably just end up like HDMI cables. You can buy a Monster one for something like $50, or a no name one that does exactly the same job for $10-20.

maybe, but unlike HDMI there is a lot of room for error with active shutter glasses.

i still do have a laugh at the people who brag about buying $300 HDMI cables.

Harvey Norman tried to sell me their $200+ HDMI cables lol. What a rip!

And then they have trouble setting everything up because the cable is half the length of a $10 one lol

cant beat my $8 for 3 metres HDMI cable hahaha.

I can, I have two HDMI cables, $10 for 5 metres [icon_razz1

My issue, Origin and 3D - alcohol, they gotta be cracking jokes....

Has anyone checked these Tv's out yet? Went to WOW for a demo and i must say it looks awesome and the glasses are not heavy to wear at all.

*Maybe this topic should be moved*

I have no doubt it would be awesome for movies, but did you have a look at the footy???

would feel pretty dumb watching tv with glasses on at home. Imagine watching the news in 3d... 3D tv doesn't really get my dick hard
