Our new halfback should be

Looks like we have a consensus ... who has Waynes number :porthozthinksthisishot:

I think Maloney could be a good option ... but i'm not sure he is a "franchise" player like Chris Garry was talking about in his article
yes this is my only concern, but as a 1-2 year stopgap, Maloney would be great. Then we lure Taylor back and hahahahahahhaha

I wouldn't be against signing a young half and hiring Cronk to mentor him.

Unless he's going to work every second week for a day when we fly to sydney, I don't see how this would work.

I haven't seen much of Gerome Burns, but have heard he is going pretty well in 20's.

Anyone know if he could be the player to take the halfback spot in 2018 or 2019?

I'd take Maloney for a stop gap ! Is a dickhead but also a very good player.

It's a weird spot, Maloney would compliment Milford perfectly and would give us the goal kicker we desperately need, but he isn't a long term option, his best years are probably behind him, might be able to squeeze out 2 or 3 serviceable years from him.

It would at the very least buy us a few years to snare the best young half we can find.

I don't think Maloney is perfect. He's one of the better options, but he isn't a controlling half. Like Milford, he needs a steady half beside him, basically to organise the forwards and execute the game plan. Maloney plays off that, he hasn't shown he can be that player himself.

I disagree, I think Maloney has shown in the past he absolutely can be a controlling half.

He did it at the Warriors when SJ was fresh, did it at the Roosters when Pearce was injured/not playing (and made Hastings look like a fucking gun in the process), and he's shown he can do it at Cronulla despite the Townsend/Bird rotation.\

Maloney isn't a future immortal, but he is a damn good player and would fit us perfectly atm. Not to mention the fact, someone with an attitude like his rubbing off onto milf? now that would be something.

I also disagree . He has a great running and kicking game , he also has great game awareness. I think he would work

If Maloney is available, he is the perfect option. Who cares if he only gives us a year or two, that's all we need.

Gives Milf more time to re-find his mojo and hopefully then be ready to be THE star in the team. Also gives us time to find the heir apparent which it certainly doesn't appear we have at present since gifting our perfect bloke to the team down the road.

Considering the ludicrous numbers being thrown around for halves at the moment, what sort of money would you/we be happy with shelling out for BBQ?

I'd be on board. Blokes played in a GF with every NRL team he's played for iirc.

For the record there's virtually no scenario we get Maloney, the only circumstance he'd ask for a release from the Sharks is if someone offered absolutely ludicrous money. I'm talking $1.2m+, we aren't paying $2m combined for our halves.

it is unlikely but it's nice to have everyone agreeing on something for once haha

Yeah good point. I was thinking back to last year when the Roosters were shithouse with Pearce out injured, but Maloney wasn't there. It was the back-end of 2015 that Maloney was the dominant half and you're right, they didn't skip a beat.

Yeah, especially since the reason he's leaving is literally because he thinks he's worth more money. Is there a Holden dealership up here?

You've talked to Maloney, have you?
