Our new halfback should be

I still just don't get why we are going after Bird. If they feel the McGuire at lock thing isn't working for whatever reason, we still have Arrow.
Money aside, do you honestly believe Arrow will be a better player than Bird? They're the same age, one has played origin and won a premiership + has over 50FG games, the other has 17 and not much else.

One is a hell of a lot cheaper, still got plenty of development in him and leaves room in the salary cap for a player better suited to our needs. We're not picking the kangaroos squad for our team as its too expensive. That said, birds a great player, i just think our priorities should be elswhere.

It's all well and good saying yeah but there's other cheaper alternatives - who are you saving the money for? For good young players that can make a difference? Like Bird?

You are hoping Arrow develops into something, Bird is something right now - plus, if we do sign him, it's going to be unders compared to the Newcastle offer, so we're not exactly giving him the keys to the family china.

But even if Arrow doesn't work out as a lock, just look at TPJ's upward progression, he is going to be an absolute star.

And when it comes to Bird, as good as he is (and he really is good), let's not kid ourselves here. If he were to come to play lock at the Broncs, he doesn't have anymore game experience in the forwards than either of Arrow or TPJ, so that argument doesn't really work as he has made his name in the backs.

I'm not saying he couldn't make the transition but we would be paying a bucket load more for him as an unknown quantity compared to the much cheaper guys we already have that have shown something.

I don't understand why Bird would come if he wasn't promised either halves or fullback.

Yep same......if he was happy to play centre you would think he would stay at the sharks, if he was after the cash then he would just go to the Knights.

Unless of course the Shark's offer is worse than ours or he just wants to get out of there.

TPJ might end up a prop or 2nd rower. Still wouldn't diminish his running or ability to offload. Nor his capacity to be a star.

There's 1 game that comes to mind when Milford really was the dominant half and was moving side to side and it was last year in our second game against Melbourne we flogged them 26/16. He was in everything he put in MoM performance and I hope that's what we see this week.
Wait.... I thought Milford has been shit since round 10 last year according to BHQ?? I call alternative facts bro

Yeah of course but doesn't change the fact we'd potentially be paying Bird a huge amount of money to maybe be a lock...or centre...or five-eighth...or whatevs we feel like on the day.

I also doubt in the long-term Bird (I doubt he'd even hang around long-term anyway) will even be close to TPJ as a forward and I also personally think Arrow will be better (as a forward) as well. It just doesn't make sense unless you put Bird on the bench as he is basically Shaun Berrigan but then, do you want to be paying that amount of money for an awesome bench player?

I am aware none of this probably makes any sense, just as signing Bird doesn't really make any sense to me either.

I can see Bird doing a Wade Graham, which I think would be wonderful for Brisbane and something we don't currently have.

If he comes here, he'd have to play centre or 5/8, and maybe fulback a lot further down the track. Surely we wouldnt purchase him for anything else. I think he'd play centre, but who knows. I just dont get it as a signing.

  1. Pete Badel on NRL tonight just said Broncos haven't heard from bird camp in the last two days and that the Broncos are now not confident of getting him.

I rarely believe Badel's info tbh

He's spun some bullshit in his time.

Garry was pretty legit though. Good dude too

Nathan Cleary would have been great but he's contracted through 2018.
