Out of the 8, second year in a row... And we're in!

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

If we had a proper five eighth, period.

EVERYBODY knew what to expect once Milford said he wasn't coming.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

I still believe that announcing Bennett as our messiah, or rather, Bennett himself announcing his 2nd coming himself, and the way it was done, has distracted the entire team, and it is showing in the way we have played since then.

I'm not saying it explains everything that is wrong with this team, but for mine, the way we have played the last 2 games shows a team that is clearly unsettled, which compounds the fractured (sorry HUGE) structures we already have due to poor coaching.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

if we were able to close out games, we'd be in the top 4... 4 of those games we lost at the death we should have won. and if we had a proper 5/8 (at the time), Hunt had a little more experience at knowing how to close out games and our defence was a tad better. who knows.

the point is we're not that far off being a serious contender

No offence mate, but that is a long way off the mark.

The problem is our structures and has been for a long time. I would say all of our wins this year have come off the back of excellent individual performances from the likes of Hunt. When Hunt has a poor game, the whole team goes to shit because there's no structure, in attack or defence.

We are a horrendously coached team, and until that changes, we are a long, long way from being a serious contender.

Put another way: you can have a whole team of Michael Jordan's, but without Scotty Pippen and Phil Jackson, a team you do not have.

Hardly.. We were playing crap before that too, hence why Hook got sacked.

SO we need to win 3 remaining games to be a chance of finals. I think we should beat the Bulldogs, Knights and Dragons. Any other wins are a bonus IMO.

I feel that is too harsh an assessment and not supported by the facts.

Our position on the table prior to the Bennett announcement showed we were still in the finals mix. We played some seriously good football and some seriously bad football, but overall, our results were a lot better than at least half the others in this competition.

In my view, we were showing signs of improving our consistency.

The agenda to sack Hook was always going to be there. My understanding was that he had until the end of the season as his last chance. The players demonstrated their loyalty to their coach. We have a new 5/8 still learning the ropes of that position in his 1st season.

Now, we are back to being a rabble which for mine, coincided with the Bennett announcement and how it came to pass.

In any case, I won't give up, even if everyone else does.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Hopefully the Broncos can remain in the 8 at the end of this round. However, we would need 2 miracles.

We would need Sharks to beat Eels, and we would need Raiders to beat Warriors by 7.

I can't see Roosters losing to Dragons and Storm losing to Tigers.

It's been a frustrating time being a Broncos fan over the past 6 years. There was a time where people would bet on whether Broncos would make the top 4 or not, and win a premiership. Now it's a bet on whether the Broncos would even make the finals...

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Years I ago I read a quote from a world champion. He said 'it's not how good you are when you're good, it's how good you are when you're bad' . Our good is first class, equal to any in the comp. Sadly our bad is not just a step down, it's way worse than that. If we could win ugly we could consider ourselves a first class/ top tier side.

A lot of blame must lay with Griffin because blokes like Bellamy train their team for that standard. He sets the bar high, what anyone would consider the perfect game yet when that's not happening or cannot be achieved he gets them in the sheds at halftime and instructs his team on what's required. It's like he recognises the times when his team is battling to achieve the perfect game standard and gives them the answer for that particular days problem.

Even though I'm not there and don't really know what's said or not said it seems as though Griffin tells the team, second verse ,same as the first. It's like we simply cannot adapt, we seem to only have one standard game which only suits when conditions suit. This is not intended to attack Griffin, I imagine he spends many sleepless nights trying to figure out what's best for the team.

Were Bellamy / Hasler / Toovey / Robinson coaching our team I'd be prepared to bet we would have a first class, second class and third class game. We would have the ability to adapt. I believe our inability to adapt to conditions is the primary reason for our overall average.

even with the eels terrible for and against they are still above us on the ladder lol

That's one of the reasons Watt made the decision he did.

Ha, facts. Fact is Hook should have lost his job when we were a rabble in 2013. The fact is we should be on top of the ladder this year, or very close to it. And because of ridiculous team selections and an obvious lack of game plans we were vying for somewhere around 8th place anyway. Of course the agenda to sack him was there. He just plain isn't good enough to coach these guys. The players loyalty and laziness is what has us outside the 8. It can in no be attributed to signing Bennett because we have played this exact same way for years now.

Yeh griffin is such a bad coach that he made the broncos play like this years before he even took charge. He was responsible for us playing like this in most years between 2001 and 2008 too, cause this year is really no worse than most of those years.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Except we never missed the top 8 with Bennett but are about two twice in a row with Griffin.

I think this is one of those times where people will probably just stop replying to you because you're just being ridiculous now.
