Out of the 8, second year in a row... And we're in!

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Sharks and Panthers games really bit us on the ass. It's not impossible for us to make the 8 but it's one hell of an uphill battle from there.

And Roosters. We had that one in the bag.

Pretty close with Souths too.

Of all the games though, letting the Sharks slip away after being up 20+ to nil was unforgivable. At least Roosters, Souths and Panthers are solid teams who were up for the contest from bell to bell.

Second half vs Cronulla was the most almighty clusterfuck I have ever seen.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Definitely should've won that first Titans game too, can't believe we lost to them and the Sharks.

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

You need 30 points to scrape into the 8 this year according to the ladder predictor i just did. Thats 3 more wins out of 4 games for us and we are playing Souths and Storm (at home). Going to be a very tough road ahead if we lose Thursday night.

On the other hand if we win all of our remaining games we will more then likely finish 5th or 6th which will give us a home final round one and obviously we would be playng well if we win all remaining four games.

Results against roosters, souths, titans, panthers and sharks have really hurt us. Those games we should have won or were in a very good position to win.

yup i was looking at the table last night. no way 28pts scraps in, in my opinion. we have to win 3/4 minimum.

Are you one of those magazine 1900 number psychics.

Haha - with a prediction record like mine, maybe they'll give me a start!

Honestly mate, am happy to be wrong. I certainly didn't see the side winning so comprehensively. Just really want to savour it. I still think we'll miss the 8 but if we can build on Friday night's performance you never know... I've just been burned too many times over the last 3 years to get too excited. We put in a good performance and serve up **** the next week against lesser opposition far, far too many times. Unlike last year, we have better caliber players so maybe we can kick on.

A few things I'd note (they probably belong in the post or pre-match threads but anyway...)

- Hunt's kicking game, I wouldn't say it was outstanding like others here but it was significantly better. The kicking early option is interesting. If we're going to persist with it against Souths EVERY one of those kicks needs to find the in-goal or open space. Poor early kicks from either Macca or Hunt to Inglis on Thursday night is suicide, imo.

- We're still making it too easy for other teams to get off their line either through soft defense or silly penalties. It wasn't a big deal against the Bulldogs as our goal line defense was good and it put pressure on them but again it's a different story against Souths.

Apart from that, things seem to be clicking. Hannant and McGuire ran hard and hit hard and Kennedy, at long last, is finally coming to the party. McCullough was outstanding. Great defense and really got up in their face. The team selection will be interesting. Griffin is crazy if he doesn't choose the exact same side. They'll be full of confidence and deserve a chance to build n their good performance.

I don't want to sound too negative saying we'll miss the 8, I think we'll fall one game short. I just have a feeling that Sharks game from a few months ago will come back to haunt us. A win against Souths will throw it wide open though.

Can't wait.

I was going to post about how Souths are predictable, we just need to starve them of the ball, turn them around like the Dogs, expose their dirtiness. But I got called away and must have hit Post instead of Cancel. Blank stare was just as effective it seems.

Give these guys an award. They deserve it. :congrats:

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

This stuff about "if only" with the Sharks, Panthers, Roosters etc blahblah is a big bucket of bull bollocks and dung in my book.

1- we weren't good enough to win those games.
2- if Hurrell doesn't go off, or Kasiano doesn't go off, we may have lost even more games, so it cuts both ways
3- since when do the Brisbane Broncos have to rely on this kind of garbage "if only" BS, in order to avoid missing the finals two years in a row? Since 1989 that's when...

This is the Brisbane fucking Broncos.

I don't want to see us squeaking in to the finals, half assed, fingers crossed, hoping other games go our way.

Someone get a big fucking broom and do this club a favour. Start with Reed and Glenn, and then move on to every other over-rated over paid "superstar".

Re: Out of the 8, second year in a row

Glenn? Get rid of Glenn?! What the hell? I don't understand the hate on Glenn his a quite achiever his rock solid in defence, and with a actually 5/8 his an absolute gun in offence for example Barba. Look at Glenn since Barba has been in the 6.

I actually agree with this. We shouldnt worry about the "what ifs", if we were good enough we would have won on our own accord, not because of luck.
We are being hindered by individual performances that have been sub-par this year and also coaching decisions that were not beneficial at all.

I honestly think we can still make it, providing that we turn up on the day and put in some dominant performances. Unfortunately, we have put ourselves in a position where we have to rely on other teams to push us up the ladder. I wish we could say we made the top 8 based on our performances, instead of luck.

I think we need to get the broom out, whether we sweep it under the rug (a.k.a move Hoffman to the wing) or pick it up and dump it in the trash (a.k.a Sell Reed to the Cranberry Faders).
