Yeah it is a good bench but doesn't really help in the Glenn for captain debate lol...
Meat77 said:Jeb, you have said some random things in your time here but Glenn for captain just about takes the cake!
Meat77 said:Umm...he's played a handful of games and has hardly established himself as a particularly dominant player in any position and I doubt would even be guaranteed a spot in the side if we had a full squad available

I don't see the need to drop any one of them, unless Henjak keeps the 2 hookers rotation going, which would royally piss me off! :evil:rnabokov said:So next year, to accommodate Parker, do we drop T'eo, Gillett or Glenn, and if we do, will we whinge when one of them sign with another club?

So you're saying Parker is a "dominant player"? How so?
While Parker is a good, solid back rower (he's no lock and it will be utter folly not to play Gillett there next year), I just cannot understand why everyone is so "captainivated" by him.
As for Glenn, IMO he's the ideal bench utility, which is why he shouldn't be captain.

whats with the Parker hate... he has been one of our best next year, he is one of he only players that hasn't fallen off in the last few weeks like the rest of the team have (even Thaiday). Gillett hasn't been as effective the last few weeks when he has been starting in the back row.
IMHO, it would be a terrible mistake to move Parker from where he is now. IMO, we have the best back row on the comp (or at least right up there).
this is how our pack and bench should look like next year.

I don't hate Parker. He is a very good back rower. He's a great club man.
Gillett and Glenn on the bench? Aarrrgghh. We need 3 good props + a utility who can play back and forward.
Also, Gillett on the bench next year is MADNESS !!!!!! HE'S WHAT WE NEED FOR ATTACK AROUND THE SCRUM BASE, apart from anywhere else. He's the next Ron Coote, Brad Clyde, Johnny Raper, Tonie Carroll.
Or are we going to bullshit about him being too young and inexperienced.
So, Is Parker in that league?
Do we pick on form/strike power/talent or sentimentality?
If anything ...

I know I now. Parker will be there next year. He'll stay captain. It won't be too long before smart clubs will sign either T'eo or Gillett or Glenn from Qld Cup.
Then we can have another whinge forum about losing yet another class player
Well with Hodges back and Hannant+Inglis coming, they are all automatic selections so one of those 3 will have to drop off. That's one less spot in the forward pack and Glenn's left centre position taken by Inglis. I can't see all three being in the team.lyn said:Huh? Parker is as good as a captain as anyone else in the team and no matter how much some people here whinge and cry he will remain second in-line captain until he retires, even Lockyer thinks he should be.
People seem oblivious to the fact that everytime Parker is captain he is playing in a team that is massive underdogs. He put in another HUGE effort, captains effort if I ever saw one. What happened to the whole "lead by example" thing? You don't need to shout a lot to make a good captain nor do you need to be individually amazing or the best player in your team. Isn't Tongue captain for the Raiders(or he has been at least), you couldn't call him a bad captain, what about Petero or Price? They are both captains as well and at club level in the past 2 years Parker has played just as good as they have.
Seriously Parker has been tremendous for us this season, he has been pretty much the benchmark for giving 110% effort into every game and never giving up. Another massive effort tonight, 17 runs, 40 tackles, 2 offloads, 140metres. Thaiday being captain would have made no difference IMO, the team listens to Thaiday anyway, he doesn't need a C in front of his name for others to respect and listen to him. Thaiday will get captaincy eventually but there is no reason to take it off Parker, he's doing as good a job as anyone else could.
Again I have nothing against Thaiday I would love for him to be captain but his time will come.
