I read the Courier Mail and it said they only started the big talks when Koloamatangi was announced he was leaving Rabbitohs last month. Which makes a lot of sense. It sucks for us because that meant we lost at a chance of getting a replacement. It’s just really unlucky. The biggest thing that pisses me off is the timing. If he always wanted to go then what an absolute wanker, a couple months ago there were heaps more middle options on the market. We dont need to replace him, we just need 2 solid middles with experience and then id spend that money elsewhere for sure.
The timing of the announcement is what pisses me off. The day before our season launch which was also going to be about celebrating our first premiership in nearly 20 years and 2 days before we head to the WCC which every player seems to be taking very seriously. It's ****ed, I think it's a really classless move from a player that the club has given so much. Yes Payne has given the club plenty too but why did he have to do it now. I have heard reports that Wayne leaked it but shouldn't there have been communications in the contract negotiations not to be a ****? I think he is weak as piss for this. Amazing player and pretty incredible to get to where he is considering where he comes from, but fails the decent bloke test and not for the firs time.I read the Courier Mail and it said they only started the big talks when Koloamatangi was announced he was leaving Rabbitohs last month. The article did it also state that there is no animosity within the club as it was he purely wanted a fresh start and a change. (But I’m sure the extra $$$ and clauses helped) I really just think it was an offer and terms that the broncos could not match.
Roller coasters are fun and thrilling, we enjoyed the amazing ride, up and downs and everything in between but eventually have to get off that rollercoaster and realise there is much more to the club than one person.
Listening to beaks pod from this arvo, Souths apparently only have 4 players signed for 2028, so there is lotttts of cap space available in a couple years.
Very much doubt he went for the same money to a state where his money will get him less, but Im sure we'll keep hearing it was the same though for sure as that hits the Broncos in crisis sweetspot.
They also said on the same pod that Haas nearly joined Souths before us, and was quoted as saying he was a huge Sam Burgess fan and his dad was a huge Souths fan. Sam apparently brushed a game of Paynes he said he would watch which pissed Payne off, and he was set to join the Storm til Wayne rang and he came to Brissy.
Long of it all is there seems to be a bit more at play than he him just leaving for the same money to go elsewhere. Whether any of it comes out is another story.
The timing was very poor. I wish it wasn’t announced in this way right before the season launch. I’ve heard the same that it was leaked on purpose especially considering that there is still the 10 day cooling period. But to be honest, when is the right time? It would be worse if he announces it just before the match next week, or before round 1. At this point the timing was always going to be badThe timing of the announcement is what pisses me off. Has that mongrel in him that Payne didn't have, took on Whyte and Spencer
Jurbo is an absolute shell of his former self and he was 30 last year.
He’s not a spine player and the contracts and management were a constant distraction. Remember when his management announced he was leaving a few years ago? Smooth operators they are not. The truth will come out in full sooner or later, has to be the $$ I predict.
Payne has never been rock solid in his football commitment to anyone- he was at the Titans and Warriors, played Meninga on the Gold Coast, signed with the Broncos, nearly signed with the Storm. His six-year Broncos deal in 18 is a marvel and I remember Bennett saying it will stop this coming up every 12 months.
Well said. We still have a spine that’s going to be envy of the comp for 10 years. I’m sure that most clubs would move heaven and earth for Walsh if he was available and they’d do a lot for Mam and Pezet. Who do souths have, Grey and Humphries?I read the Courier Mail and it said they only started the big talks when Koloamatangi was announced he was leaving Rabbitohs last month.
