PLAYER Payne Haas

Haas’ agent Ahmad Merhi also told the SMH that a boxing career is on the cards.

“I am happy to say that boxing has a real appeal for Payne. He’s been training in that area for some time now and has every intention to fight,” he said.

“I think he’d be great, obviously, but that’s not my area of expertise. I’ll be leaving anything that might come up in that area to Khoder Nasser. That’s his area. And obviously Payne has a relationship with SBW and that will be vitally important as well. The respect there is enormous.”

I already knew what type of man he was, this doesn’t surprise me in the slightest.

But has he helped? He’s now put haas in the (me) vs being the man I’ve said I was the whole time….so do you want a premiership/mates/family all being close? Or is it just money and **** the rest.

Dummy bill looks to have pegged haas into a corner.
I let a lot of things go, but not this one.......

The expression is 'painted' into a corner, not 'pegged'

I for one do not need any mental imagery of Haas being pegged by anyone ;)

FMD: They love the limelight.

Payne does **** all when other players bashes our players, unlike Tino

Payne may get boxing tips from his mum.

I’ve heard clubs talk about loyalty and how much they love the player, and then five days later they’re getting cut to bring someone else in. What really pees me off is when people in a position of power pull out the loyalty card.

This seems like a dig at Broncos management. It is a bit rich saying that about a club who voluntarily upped Payne's salary, have stood by him through everything and is not offering a paltry contract. It is also the same club who stuck by Milford despite putting out performances worth about a quarter of what he was getting paid.

Take it with a grain of salt. This is all coming from a bloke who wont hesitate to break contracts for more money and the fans and club be damned.

SBW is delusional and a perpetual victim. Its always other people, or the club, or the NRL doing THEM wrong.

I would love if Haas stays, but if he goes, the biggest upside to that (aside from spending that top dollar on better positions) will be a severing of any link to the Broncos with the likes of SBW and Mundine.

Cancerous humans.

It is similar to TPJ and being 'friends' with Politis. I don't want anyone on our side going to someone strongly affiliated with that parasite of a club.

I'm totally with the "pee or get off the pot" faction, Haas is a great player, no doubt, but we have others coming through. If this talk-fest goes on much longer they should let him go and draw a line in the sand for the other youngsters in the club .... we have a cap to deal with, when we make an offer it's the best we can do and you should be aware that other clubs will be watching the way you handle yourself in these negotiations because, sooner or later, you'll be horse-trading with them and they'll know exactly what kind of guy you are and where your loyalties lie.

Has he ever tested himself on the market before? We've had him locked up since he debuted right? If that's the case, I'm glad he's testing his value now but I hope he stays. If we lock him up before he tests the market, this will always be on his mind with $BW and co in the background agitating. Rip the bandaid off now IMO, rather than cop 3-4yrs of this crap every season.

Problem is with that stupid Tino deal. If the Titans are willing to pay that much for Tino, I don't want to imagine what other clubs are willing yo pay for Hass.

If he doesn't sign before November, I think he's going. All the talk about premierships and life after footy is just a cover. It is, and always has been, about the money.

I like Hass when he plays for us, but I won't be that cut when he leaves. If that $1m+ per year can be used to keep the rest of our team together, then it's worth losing him. Getting rid if the drama his agent brings will be worth it too.

The "testing the market" quote is more diversion and stall tactics to agitate for more money (from everyone including union and the Broncs).

You absolutely do not need to "test the market" to get an idea of the value of a player.
There is zero doubt in my mind that Haas management has been contacted by literally every club and Union regardless of the Nov 1 negotiation limit.

I also have no doubt that Haas management has reached out to numerous clubs to get an idea of what they are offering.

Testing the market is literally an excuse to not re-sign with the Broncos so they can prolong this as long as possible as each team/code tries to outbid each other for Haas signature.

His scum manager might be amateur and a bad influence on Haas but they are 100% doing every little thing they can to maximize Haas's earning potential, loyalty be damned (SBW helping with this narrative as well).

As others have said, this has become a circus and even had the likes of Lockyer publicly stating this contract business could very well distract the team leading into the finals (same as release request last year).

People were calling it bullshit when some of us said this shit with Payne has a destabilizing effect on the group, but even Lockyer is seeing this happen.

Give him a deadline, give him a respectable offer ( we already have ) if he doesn't sign before the deadline, tell him we are pulling the offer and focus on the Broncos who want to be here.

Of course it is and of course his management knows. I'd rather get it out of the way now though instead of him signing for 4yrs now and then this all coming up again in a couple of years with the excuse that "he's never put himself on the market"
