Penrith players arrested

I love how Jennings is the first name in the article even though he is less involved (so it seems) just because more people will want to read it that way.

Well, Jennings is the bigger name of the two. Played in the world cup and is on the cusp of Origin selection. Makes sense you'd lead the bigger name.

Yes Fonzy I know why they do that but it annoys me, Jennings may be getting dragged through the mud for little to no reason as far as we know.

And another reason to hate the journo scum. Players are f*cking up left, right and center, but the media only ever make it worse. They'll go to any extent to get a better story, even if it's unethical. And as you say FCB, for all we know Jennings did f*ck all apart from be at the same pub.

Jennings was having his 21st at a fairly notorius pub, I'd say there was a fair chance he was involved somehow.

Now sit on it! Heeeeyyyy.

Jennings I'm kind of suprised at, he seems a fairly calm person. Iosefa, not so suprised.

Bloody nongs.

Come on now Fonzie, lets not pay these boys a compliment.

The nong club is exclusive. 8-)

And how could all this have been avoided?
a) not going out and just drinking at home, a private 21st party
b) going out but not getting drunk

It's NOT unreasonable to do either.

To be honest who cares...... doesn't sound like that big a deal to me. It's sad how everyone gets their jollies from reading this stuff. It's nothing that doesnt happen in the city and valley 100 times over a weekend...

I care. As a fan of the game.

These wankers apparently love the game. If these wanker love the game, they'll stop doing this shit in public. If these wankers want to see their game continue into the future, these wankers better stop this shit.

Why would any parent want to push their child into a binge drinking, assult happy game?

Wankers.

+1.

I don't think the incidents that happen are that serious either (most of the time). BUT, the fact the media makes them big news is an undeniable fact. Bad? Probably, but it is just the way it is. We can't keep making it an excuse. Players know full well if they get busted doing something then it'll likely be front and back page news, as well as fodder for talk back radio for weeks to come.

So just fucking stop going out getting drunk! If the incidents don't happen, the media hysteria doesn't happen.

Why is that so hard to a) understand and b) implement for these players? And, more importantly, why aren't their coaches, senior players, club CEOs, player managers, media managers, wives, girlfriends, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters etc drumming this into their heads?

in another few years or so this stuff won't even make the paper.

Because hopefully it won't be happening.

You'll never stop it happening.. mix young blokes with alcohol and you always have and always will get trouble. Throw in the ego and cash these guys have and theyd be even more likely to strike trouble.

I'm just saying it won't be newsworthy anymore.

Hence why I'm saying it won't happen if the clubs and NRL finally get serious and make it so that indulging in alcohol is not worth the risk for these jokers.

To be honest the public humiliation they face is more than enough punishment. I feel sorry for a lot of these blokes who end up in situations they never meant to. I understand there a few guys who are just dickheads and will find trouble wherever they go, but the majority would be good guys who just had too much to drink and made a poor decision.

It's embarrassing enough getting in trouble with the law without having it smeared across the media for a week, i understand media attention goes hand in hand with their jobs but geeze it's unfair if you ask me. I don't know any other type of employment where you can face weeks of ridicule, have your name dragged through the the mud, fined tens of thousands of dollars and still face the prospect of getting the sack!

The media are vultures though, they beat up on everything and creating something out of nothing more often than not. A non rugby league related example, at the Bulls end of season booze up - players, selected media, high powered sponsors and those involved with the team only - one of the Courier Fails most prominent and respected cricket writers tried sneakily taking a few photos of Andrew Symonds on the beers for a beat up story the next day. Its a bit of a joke the stranglehold the media have on the game, their righteous crusade against alcoholism and bad behavior will cease once the public's interest does too. I give it a few years and no one will even care about this stuff anymore.
