Hence why I'm saying it won't happen if the clubs and NRL finally get serious and make it so that indulging in alcohol is not worth the risk for these jokers.

To be honest the public humiliation they face is more than enough punishment. I feel sorry for a lot of these blokes who end up in situations they never meant to.

You ask most people who drive drunk and cause a fatal accident. They didn't mean to. Should we feel sorry for them?

Everyone knows if you drink you will act different and behave different and react different to when you're sober.
The consequences for a footballer are much much worse than for your "average joe", but that's part of the package of being a sportsman (or a doctor, lawyer, politician, teacher etc etc).

When will they, and some of their apologists, get that through their heads?

Very, very, long bow to draw Coxy between causing a fatal accident and stumbling down the street legless ala Brett Seymour. Everyweek there would be cases of the previous happening that barely get a mention in the press, yet Seymour demanded 2 week long coverage.

I'm talking about incidents like Te Reo and Lacey (I'll use that as an example because they were convicted). Drunken assaults, drink driving, stuff like that that for most people doesn't make the papers unless it's really serious.

I don't know any other type of employment where you can face weeks of ridicule, have your name dragged through the the mud, fined tens of thousands of dollars and still face the prospect of getting the sack!

I pretty sure most people would go through all of that within their workplace and/or industry. The thing with professional sportspeople is that their workplace is essentially everywhere and their industry involves the media and general public. And also for most people when they do something like this, in most cases it is only their own reputation that suffers, however in the case of professional sportspeople the reputation of their employer's entire company is damaged.

I give it a few years and no one will even care about this stuff anymore.

I sincerely hope you are wrong - I don't want to live in a world where this kind of behaviour goes un-noticed and that no-one cares.
