He'd be a great buy. But he won't leave Union. Marquee Wallaby on $1 million a year, or Broncos five eight on $500k... Yeah right.

OK, here's the deal though. ARU and ANZSA RU are massively struggling financially and they are very definiately considering implementing an NRL style Salary Cap from next year, meaning players will be having to take massive pay-cuts across the board. This is also why Cooper only signed a 1 year contract - all ARU contracts expire at the end of this year, so they can re-negotiate them all under the new system and pay levels. Of course the RU Players Union is fighting this tooth and nail and urging money cuts elsewhere other than player's salaries; but my info is that from next year ARU and NRL will be a much more level playing field financially for players.

Really? Wow that's huge. More Union players will come over to the NRL and I don't think we will see league players go to Union that often any more. Good news for the NRL.

Yep, but it's not a done deal yet - might all fall over at the last minute. RU execs have a habit of caving in to the players at the final moment.

I could see genia as hooker for the broncos more than cooper in the halves for the broncos. But really can't really see either crossing codes. I hope not either; we have enough real league talent and don't need to poach union players.

The Daily Telegraph did a spiel on this through the week, they estimated that the cap will be around $4.4 million for the top 30 players. The ARU will allow team sponsors to pay up to 5 players $30,000 each as marquee deals.
By 2013, the cap comes down to $4.1 million.

Considering that the NRL salary cap is $4.3 million (across 25 players, five less than the union squad) his potential base salary will be greater in the NRL, and playing for a team like the Broncos in a code that gets FTA coverage for 30 weeks a year (plus rep games) his ability to attract personal sponsors will be increased as well.
Quade Cooper to the Broncos might actually be more likely than him staying in union.

Don't forget the ARU can and will top up contracts of players they want to keep. I think NRL clubs will start to get players from union but only the ones Union don't want for the Aussie side.
