This isn't an 80s Teen Movie. You are not going to change the bad boy, girl. Carney will stuff up again, and we'll have to look for another replacement. I'd prefer just looking towards the future right away, and going with some home grown talent. I know neither one of them has really proven themselves yet, but I can see quite a bit of potential in both Ben Hunt and Corey Norman. I think they both deserve a proper go before signing some douche from another club. It would be a massive kick in the balls for a lot of the younger players too.

Also, it's not just Carney we'd be worried about going drinking. You'd have to consider our own players who'd get involved with him. If we signed Carney, in a year we'd be losing him, and possibly others too.

Agreed. We have a young squad and there are players that may well get influenced by someone like Carney if he did fall off the wagon yet again. It's too big a risk for not enough reward IMO.

I'd rather see Ben Hunt get first shot alongside Wallace next season (assuming Wallace continues his improvement this year).

fair point.

The immediate thought that springs to mind re any proposal to sign Carney with the hope that we could turn his behavioural and alcohol issues around is Brendan Fevola. The Lions took that very punt with him thinking they could sort him out, look how well that turned out. I am afraid I think he is too much of a risk, he could potentially poison our pool of young players. Don't want him and we don't need him.

^^ This. I reckon a team with a solid core of very experienced and exemplary players would be needed to keep him on the straight and narrow. Considering the Broncos really only have Parker that fits that description next year, it's a bad idea.

Note: I left Hodges out of that not for any particular incident but just his penchant for a drink and a good time.

Shall we move this to the Carney thread?

We've got Mormon Ben Hannant, too. It would be nice if we still had Folau around; could've put Carney in a house with him. Although if I were Todd I'd never answer the door when I saw him knocking.
