Take anything anyone says with a grain of salt. This is the same 'we have faith in our youngins' speech that was rolled out a few weeks before signing prince. While I don't think we will be getting thurston (as I think all these 'secret' meetings are just to make sure the cowboys know they have to pay top dollar for him) I also don't really take anything the club says with any real seriousness

I fail to see a contradiction between remaining faithful to developing talent from within the Broncos system and signing Prince, he was not signed at the expense of anyone.

I read that article and I take it as an almost certainty the Broncos are going to make an offer to Thurston later in 2013. Simply throwing water on the fire to stop people speculating and let them negotiate privately.

I know the cowboys were aware, but my point is he is going through the motions with these clubs to make the cowboys think they need to pay overs for him

Yep, it's like the "the coach has the full support of the board" remark. You can almost be certain they will be sacked in the coming weeks.

One thing to make sure to kill off a preseason and premiership is say your halves are sacked and being replaced a season later.

Announce the Thurston deal mid season, means the current halves will have to pick up their game in hope of a good contract at another club 2014.

That's exactly what I thought when I read it, sounds like the club is trying to keep the current halves feeling wanted. If we said we're interested in Thurston having already signed Prince then we may as well be telling the current halves you are all out of here after next year.
