Re: the signing of Inglis. Do we all forget the incandecsent rage around here when we signed Folau, arguably of equal value as Inglis to a club (48 tries in 48 games for the Broncos I believe is the stat). The huge price tag necessitating the release of most of our forwards etc etc...? How is it different this time around with Inglis?

Personally I think we have a very good group of raw young outside backs that we should concentrate on first, and use any spare cash in the cap to bolster the forwards.

Difference is the cap is going up $300K next year anyway.

Combine that with the $400K or so we save by not having to retain Folau and there's every reason we can buy "Inglis" and still have money left to upgrade our youngsters as they deserve.
it wont, the grant will increase by $200k but the cap will only increase by $100k.
Huh?
I'm sure it's 300k increase with a 200k increase in the club grant, so net effect is clubs need to pay another 100k, where have you seen where it says the cap will be increased by only 100k?

The cap will increase by $300K in total, $200k of this being an increase in club grant.
There is also talk of a large Origin rep increase, and I would assume likewise for Test rep.

[quote="Bucking Beads":134updmy]Looks like Inglis is being looked at by the AFL too. I saw him kicking a Sherrin today,

Was it a joke or a serious thing???? I fuking hope he was mucking around!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was kicking them long and straight from 50m's out on Carltons practice ground... [icon_thumbs_do
That is the club that I would least like to hear of him kicking the sherrin on. You guys do realise that Carlton is chasing a big power full forward. If Inglis went to AFL he would probally play full forward  :| [/quote:134updmy]

It used to be where the Storm trained. I don't know if that is still the case but Princes Park in Carlton is where the Storm boys used to hone their skills and drills.
It turned up in Underbelly too.
It is a beautiful old fashioned ground that looks like something from the 70's.
A lot like Melbourne in a lot of ways.

Nothing too sinister with the Sherrin, I don't think, and probably a topical bit of fun.
Feeding the chooks maybe.
Cluck cluck.

Going back a couple of weeks, does anyone give a crap that Steve Michaels is gone? It was like all my christmas' had come at once to get him out of the club. We should get Esi Tonga from the titans in return!

Yes glad Michaels is gone

No Tonga is not an option IMO. Inglis or nothing.

The cap will only increase by $100k with $200k going toward increasing the club grant, shortening the gap between the actual cap and what the NRL gives clubs. It is so poor clubs dont have to come up with the difference on their own. Presuming its implemented, its only an additional $100k that will be available to spend on players next year.

The increase in the long serving player concession from $100K to $300K will have a much more significant impact for the Broncos with Lockyer, Hodges, Parker and Thaiday probably eligible.

Let's get this thread back on topic folks. Feel free to start new threads to discuss any of the other things raised.

Hoffman has re-signed 2 more yrs. Good news for Cullen haters is he looks like leaving at the end of the season.

happy about that, Hoffman is really starting to show the goods at the back and i think he can be a really good fullback for us.

Broncos won't be headhunting a new Izzy

Cashed-up Brisbane have ruled out head-hunting a replacement for pin-up boy Israel Folau when he begins his AFL odyssey next year.

Instead, they'll show faith in a rich vein of youth they believe will step up in the next 12-24 months.

Armed with one of the NRL's most impressive war-chests, it's been suggested Brisbane would circle troubled NRL club Melbourne in case the salary cap abusers release one or two of their superstars, in particular Greg Inglis or Billy Slater, to allow them to play for premiership points again in 2011.

But former Broncos forward and recently appointed general manager of football operations, Andrew Gee, said today the club would not attack the open market looking for Folau's replacement.

"The media have suggested we will hunt Greg Inglis," said Gee, pointing out NRL clubs had been warned recently against approaching any Storm player not off contract this year.

"Sure we've got some funds available now Israel is leaving but unless a top line player, a blue chip player is available, we won't be entering the player market.

"Nobody knows what's happening to any of those Melbourne players and there's a lot of blue chip players down there.

"Obviously if Inglis was to come on the market, I think there'd be 15 clubs interested, although I don't know how many of them would be in a (financial) position.

"We're concentrating on tying up all our young boys, that's always the way the Broncos have done things.

"We've brought a lot of young players through and (have) given some a good taste of first grade this year.

"We believe that core group of 10 or 11 kids in our group are going to carry us through into the future."

.......

Coach Ivan Henjak, who's sitting on a player gold mine, wanted to retain a host of youngsters who through the NRL's Under-20 competition had attracted the attention of rival clubs.

Promising prospects like Gerard Beale, Matt Gillett, Alex Glenn, Josh Hoffman, Ben Hunt, Andrew McCullough, Jharal Yow Yeh, Corey Norman, Dale Copley, Dunamis Lui and Kurt Baptise are all part of Henjak's future plans.

"We won't go out and buy someone just for the sake of buying them or just for the sake of spending that money," Henjak said today.

"We're not going to spend it (money) because we've got it unless there's a player we believe would be a really good fit for the club."

Gee would be more than happy to hang onto the cash until it's needed.

"You hang onto it just in case a superstar comes onto the open market or you need some money to keep one of your younger players," he said.

"You're not going to spend it just because it's there.

"We've got faith in these kids and if nobody comes along we'll be happy sticking with what we've got."

Great news.

I think Hoffman has surprised a few people. I mentioned in the match thread the other day, his ability to beat the first defender. He seems to have a fair bit of strength, reminds me a bit of Minchiello in the way he plays. What's really pleased me is his kick return. Doesn't bugger about like most fullbacks, just gets it back quickly to relieve any pressure.

Yep, we'll be going after Inglis.

I notice Wintersteins name isn't included on that list eusa_think

Or Denan Kemp. Clearly they just weren't listing players who are proven first grade stars.

Winter/Hoffman and Yow all got offers from the Cowboys..

2 rejected the offer the 3rd is still making up his mind.

Hopefully Winterstein stays, Cowboys will need to offer him a fair bit to get him IMO.
