Positive drugs test

Apparently the drug he was caught with can be justified as legitimate for people suffering from Asthma, so if Matuia has Asthma he might be able to get off lightly.

Isn't the timing of this absolutely ridiculous? - Not that I'm saying it is a set up or anything, more the time the story came out and especially that he has just moved to the Sharkies - it's like a concerted effort for the sharks to go under - no sponsor would touch them after this, if there ever was a death knell for a club, this is it

True. They are losing their Major Sponsor LG at the end of the year - Who on earth is going to want to sponsor wooden spooners for next year, especially considering the amount of shit they have been through.

Sharks are gone.

Durex? lol

If he was taking it for Asthma then it would/should have been declared by Maitua at some point to the ASDA or the NRL so this wouldn't be in the news and he wouldn't need to request the B sample test.

April 2, 2009 : Tony Zappia says "Reni must have felt the Sharks was the place to change his ways because it wasn't happening with the discipline at the Bulldogs. Reni can obviously see the benefit of playing in a disciplined environment like we have at the Sharks."

I lol'd, unfair dismissal case? lmaoooo, can't afford to pay phone bills? I wonder why.
Seriously, I have zero sympathy for idiots like this.

I don't get it. Defend alleged sexual assault, getting pissed, getting into fights, pissing in public, trouble with the police... but zero sympathy for drugs?

Aussie John Simons came out and said if there is another incident that brings the game into disrepute, he's pulling his Origin sponsorship of around $1mil.

Was on Nova.

Player busted taking drugs. His justification: everyone does it.

Whenever something like this is reported he feels compelled to note that they're not the only ones.

So? Does that mean we shouldn't bust them?

Where did he say that it was ok for Maitua to take drugs because he felt there were others in thr NRL doing it? Geez you always seem to misconstrue people posts so they suit your own agenda

It's just a pointless thing to say.

Much like this?

Yep, so that makes it right, huh?

I doubt it. ASADA basically has a zero tolerance policy - ie, if you take the wrong type of cold and flu tablet that contains pseudoephedrine and you get tested, you will return a positive test, leading to a ban.

Not a bait. It's just a trend I've seen with Jester.

Players busted having group sex in toilet. His justification: everyone does it.

Difference being - group sex is legal, performance enhancing drugs aren't. And I never implied they shouldn't be busted, all I am saying is out of the 400+ NRL players, I am sure more than 1 would be taking performance enhancing drugs.

And the latest little expose about the Sharkies:-
http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/816 ... s-sex-toys
The Cronulla Sharks paid $20,000 to a female staffer after she was accidentally hit in the face by the club's chief executive Tony Zappia, Fairfax have reported.

The embattled club has also been accused of distributing sex toys to players to take home, horrifying some of their wives and girlfriends.

Mr Zappia accidentally punched the club's then-community liaison officer Jenny Hall during a shadow boxing incident in August 2008.

Ms Hall said nothing publicly about the matter and has since moved interstate, but she received $20,000 from the club, Fairfax said.

Mr Zappia denied allegations that in 2008 players were offered sex toys to take home to their wives and girlfriends.

Sources told Fairfax that the items were stored and distributed from the club's offices.

Also last year, it said, an unofficial club supporter and sex shop owner allegedly entered the players' dressing room after a game at Shark Park with two scantily clad women who were introduced as "bitch one and bitch two".

On Wednesday evening, Mr Zappia sent a mobile text message to Fairfax referring to the alleged sex toys.

"The club has not provided those items to players," the message read. He also said the club did not have any sponsors "of that nature".

Is there a let's kill the sharkies campaign on with the Sydney media atm or something???

He can't actually be taking it for asthma as the drug is not approved for human use in Australia. so there goes any claim he can make about a legitimate use for taking the drug

Maybe not implying they shouldn't be busted, but that "it's no big deal" because others are doing it.

And unless the actual drug is illegal in Australia, using performance enhancing drugs isn't illegal - he won't end up risking a conviction. All he'll risk is banning from his sport. Difference between illegal and against the rules of your chosen sport.

Man, this is grim. I have a mate who is a die-hard Sharks man and I have had lots of fun sinking the slipper in but now I think it has to stop. The poor bloke...

i think they will win this weekend .......i reckon if you want to make some money ..get on the sharks this weekend..

LOL but I actually agree with him. They're riding a 9 game losing streak, they're under siege, and they're playing a traditional rival at home on Saturday night...I think they're actually a chance to show some defiance and win.
