POST GAME Post Game Discussion - Round 1 - South Sydney

This!! One of the most annoying things to see is this error. And seriously, twice. I mean how the fok can it be so difficult to just not kick the ball so God damn hard!

I would even settle if we only kicked the ball to their 10 metre line. I would rather sacrifice those 15 metres than a penalty on halfway

Well that was a tough game to take! Pretty disappointing all round with game, crowd (only 36k) and the heat (shit it was hot in the stand).

Defense wins games and we got dominated through the middle by their big forwards setting up the platform for their attack. Isaac Luke killed it and as much as he is a player you love to hate just showed up Macca big time. Complete opposite to us and Hunt/Milford can be forgiven for constantly being on back foot, tried hard but undone by some stupid mistakes by the forwards.

only round 1 but gee thought they would muscle up far more than they did.

still like to see the below back line going forward though doubt there will be any changes

Maranta, McGuire and Glenn were outstanding.

1. Maranta
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Hodges
5. Kahu
6. Milford
7. Hunt

bring on round 2, can only get better than that.

Exactly! Gee, footy players really are not the britest bulbs on the Christmas tree right!

Until we have a fully functional spine we are not going to be competitive, separate to having fundamental errors coached out of the squad whoever is selected and a decent kicking game.

The scoreboard last night said it all

I would rather have the Thaiday that ran hard, broke tackles, made line breaks and offloaded the ball rather than a Thaiday that drops to the ground straight away in an effort to get a quick play the ball, which he rarely does anymore because he doesn't get up quick enough.

As would I, my point was that's what he used to do and he's never changed it since he's become slower. It used to work, not anymore

I've been reading a ton of Bronco bashing comments by people all over the internet, forums and what not.

It's bloody painful.

Look, it's only Round 1 & I have faith in Wayne but geez, that was ordinary. Really really disappointing. I didn't expect us to win but I expected us to be a LOT more competitive than we were.

I can say so much more but it's only Round 1, let's see how we go. I'll keep my thoughts to myself for now.

Let me state the obvious, Wayne, you have a LOT of work to do.

That press conference makes me feel a bit better. Thaiday has needed a rocket for a long time, at this point I only hope he ends up somewhere else next season.

I thought Gillett was outstanding on the bench, would love for Thaiday to be benched next week, I'm also happy Bennett says Gillett would be starting, he was great and deserves to start.

Besides that, Milford sucked but I never expected him to fire in the first game against a pack that dominated us. I'll be more happy to judge his ability at 5/8 once I've seen him have a few months to play the role.

McCullough... I'm so over him. I was incredibly pissed we let go of Granville last year, I really hope Parcel can break into first grade and put serious pressure on McC.

We desperately need more kickers in this team, still baffles me that McC doesn't kick much, from what I've seen he's a good kicker, there's simply too much pressure on Hunt.

Whitchurch is not first grade standard.
Kahu is a player I rate, but it's going to take him a while to get the confidence to play at his best.

Totally agree with all of this. Poor Milf is not getting an easy initiation into the Broncos. Souths first game and Cronulla for the second. You can almost guarantee that Barba is going to fire and try and school Milf to make a point. It will be interesting to see how Milf handles it.

Feel a lot better after that press conference. Wayne knows the issues and has the plans to fix them.

So refreshing to watch a press conference where you know the coach has seen exactly what you have and addresses it. Most of Griffins PC's left me wondering if he had watched the same game as me or whether he caught a replay of another game on fox

Highlight of the night for me was getting my hands on a new fandana. Apart from that, we sucked and the Bunnies were awesome.

Yep same, I think the performances in the past 3 years have ingrained a fair bit of doubt in the players minds and its going to take a while to turn that around.

did we get pumped the first night they brought in the rally towels too? i cant remember. but broncos trying new things always seems to end poorly hahah

For those who can't be bothered watching this is most of what was said in the PC
- Thaiday's performance unacceptable for a rep player he should know better
- starting team did well but as soon as the subs came on we lost momentum and they didn't play well
- Gillett was really good and he wants to reward him by starting next week, didn't mention who might get dropped.
- We had no attacking fluency, no repeat sets, every time we down there we made an error
- years of underperforming it's going to take a while to adjust
- Boyd is a big loss in the back
- Kahu made a mistake but it's forgiveable and can be worked on

He made some comment about Griffin not using the bench much in the last few years because of something, did he say incompetent?, I couldn't make out what he said, anyone hear that?

In short, it was a good PC to watch, he very honestly gave his thought on the game, unlike Griffin who would just more or less say we tried hard unlucky in the end ahhhhh ahhhh ahhhhhh.

So what did everyone think about Parker being subbed ( and then playing hooker)

i have no problem with parker being subbed as the heat was atrocious but shifting into hooker was one of the dumbest things i've seen.

i'll let it slide if it never happens again.

from memory he said something along the lines of "it may of been a lack of confidence" (ie griffin lacked confidence in his bench).

Thanks mate. I found it interesting he picked up on that, he must've been watching very closely most weeks.

It was refreshing to see him identify so many of our issues, it makes me feel much more confident that he can actually fix them. Griffin never gave me the impression he understood what was wrong (at least publicly) which made it hard to get behind him.

I think he said that it was probably the reason Griffin never used the bench much because the team lost momentum when the bench players came on.

i'd say he would of watched most of last seasons matches during the off season.

i did like his press conference. its nice to see a coach address the issues openly. its clearly calmed alot of us down :D
