POST GAME POST GAME [Round 10, 2023] Broncos vs Sea Eagles

Billy is a waaay more effective tackler .
Take note of who chops the opposition middle`s legs off early in games . Paix is a catcher tackler . Doesn`t stop runners like Billy does .
And Turpin was even better at defence. The critique of Billy has been about his decisions with ball in hand, that don't involve getting rid of it immediately. The other aspects of his game are fine, and his service is becoming excellent. Paix is more dynamic in attack but he's no playmaker.

Fatty at halftime:

“They couldn’t play any worse if they tried. They drop the ball. Goes into touch. Forward pass. They need half time quickly. No more points. You know, if they settle down and play some just decent Rugby League in the second half, they can get back into it.”

Fatty at fulltime:

“I am Tom Trbojevic’s biggest fan but tonight he doesn’t look right. He has seriously almost been a passenger for a lot of the game. I don’t want to sound too harsh … but Tom is just not the player that we know he can be. He is obviously not 100 per cent. He is out there doing his best, but he just lacks the flair tonight.”

Corey Parker:

“The Manly Sea Eagles, they could play until midnight tonight and they’d still be trying to chase their tail. The looked rudderless at different times, I thought DCE tried extremely hard but just wasn’t able to come up with any punch.”

Michael Ennis:
"It was hard to get a read on the Manly side at the moment — some weeks they’re great, some weeks they’re awful”.

That all sounds so familiar... except the great some weeks, I don't remember that for a lot of the pie era.

I just have to say that going into Magic round is easily my favourite game of the year! Each year the NRL have done better and better with the stuff outside the game.

My kids got to swap their old soccer balls for brand new NRL match balls, kick field goals, win prizes see famous footy players.

They met and shook hands/selfies with JYY and Matty Johns (both were super nice and accommodating to my kids) got to see fletch and hindy in the tank (so I took my kids to the Caxton, what of it) and then we watched a game and a half of footy. With mostly happy footy fans that are just enjoying the love of the game with everyone. The broncos kicking ass was the icing on the cake.

I have been to all the broncos magic rounds and if they take it away from Brisbane the NRL are actually as idiotic as I think. Because it’s a fantastic event.

also, Reece, Patty and Payne are magnificent.
Billy is better than Paix atm and I am his biggest hater.

I saw a couple of people having a problem with Walsh's grubbers for Cobbo, but I've got absolutely no problem with them. In fact, I want to see more of it.

It used to be a common tactic of ours when we had Hunt at fullback, the little grubbers in behind the line for the wingers. It went away for a long time there but it looks like Walsh is starting to bring it back and so he should with the amount of times wingers come up and in these days. Hopefully he starts utilizing that on the left, as well.

Agreed, i also see people saying he should settle down in general and not try to make something out of every play.
But i kind of like that too.
I know full well it wont work every time, but holy shit it keeps the opposition guessing everytime he gets the ball.
His frantic unpredictable attack is a big part of the reason we are doing so well in that regard and i dont want him to change it.
Of course he could do it all a little more composed, but i have not seen such electric attack from a Bronco in ages.
Throw Maam, Reynolds and Cobbo in the mix and there is no reason to think that they cant produce points more often than not.

There was a little snippet in his post match interview on Fox, where he said something like he has million things going on in his head whenever he gets the ball

So I'm ok with his erratic play if that's the case, because he's playing on instincts and you'll always react quicker in those situations compared to being coached to do something.

Munster is another guy who says he doesn't know what he's going to do when he gets the ball, and then look like a headless chook, but he's elite and still plays that style.

Given he's still doing it and not second guessing himself hopefully that means Kevvie is aware of it and happy for him to keep playing on his instincts as well... it will just take time and experience for everything to catch up and align so that his instincts determine the right play at the right time for all situations.

Once they do, a guy with his speed and quickness across the field could be lethal whenever he sees anything happening across the field... we've not even tapped into the work he likes to do down blindsides.

Moses is lethal down a blind side for Parra, and Reece was doing similar plays in that broncos trial as an 18yr old a few years back.

I like the bloke, i reckon he brings more to the team than just on-field stuff.
An older bloke with a level heard to keep our young upstarts in check ( Walsh, Cobbo etc )
Don’t disagree with this.

I thought that was probably Billy’s best performance. Looked like a dummy half and not a guy filling in. Paix probably had one of his most well rounded performances too.

Riki continues to blow me away.

If / when Riki actually strides out and runs full pace on a hit up .
Maybe then he will blow me away . He way he tip toes up to the defence makes me cringe .

Defensively he has been impressive .
