POST GAME POST GAME [Round 4, 2023] Broncos vs Dolphins

I'd be smashed if I took a shot everytime Danika and Bracey said something about it. Fatty too of course. I believe it even got a mention in Reynolds post match interview on how he felt being boo'd etc + how he felt not having the crowd at their own home ground. Was a complete media beatup.

And you completely missed the point on my original quote. Was not a shot at dolphins or their crowd numbers at all. It's neins lying to perpetuate the battle of Brisbane bs that there was more dolphin supporters than Broncos.
I think you're missing my point that we all know the Dolphins are the underdogs with the smallest fanbase, and we all know commentators are want to trade in hyperbole. Like the way Fatty always puffs up compliments to second tier forwards like Jensen in response to them doing something half decent.

It's more being overly generous than deceitful. Like when your wife asks if her arse looks fat in this.

For mine, at full strength, based on their performances so far, Dolphins are a top 4 side.

Like us. Looks like the finals will have 3 Qld teams. YES.
They've looked like one so far. But so did we last year. We got there by playing every game like a grand final. And we paid for it with injuries. Like the Dolphins did last night.

I think their run is over. They'll be doing it tough from now on.

On the other hand, we played within our capacity, and beat the daylights out of them physically. We came away unhurt. It's a long season. You have to pace it.

It's a great sign for us that we haven't had to dig too deep yet and we're still winning.

Loved this, too.

I loved that try.
i especially loved the passion Staggs showed after scoring it.

but where were all of the Dolphins backs. it was nothing but forwards chasing him. If I was Bennett that would have pissed me off.

Tesi was on one leg ,the centre was on the ground back on the try line .
The half back was on the bench with an ice pack on his chest . Only middles left to attempt a chase .

Interesting issue raised its head again last night. As in a recent Roosters game from memory (JWH/Radley?), there was a head clash where only one of the players is sent for assessment. Obviously, last night poor old Kodi came off second best in the collision, but there must be similar impact forces involved for each player - equal and opposite reaction, if you will. Is this being ignored so as to avoid a huge disadvantage to the one team? IF they are serious about protecting the players welfare, both must be taken off?
Could this be a situation to temporarily activate the 18th man?
They seem to look at how the player reacts to impacts after rather than the impact itself, it is fairly common when there is a head clash that only one seems to be effected.

I think our issue at the moment is when do we sub Patty and Haas.

Realistically they both need to come off at 30mins and then come back on at 55-60mins... except we don't like playing without them on the field and the risk is high playing without both of them out there, especially if Flegler is taken off at the 20mins mark or so.

Last week we took Patty off early and kept Payne out there, except dragons started running over the top of us whilst Payne was out there... Payne went off at 50 and then came back at 70 to terrorise them.

That's not really sustainable, because Payne struggled going that long straight and whilst giving him a 20min rest was beneficial, bringing him back with only 10mins to go is a risk as well.

This week I daresay he tinkered with having Patty out there longer and then bringing him back on for the last minutes of the game. Whilst Haas was able to come off earlier and then come back earlier in the second half.

We need to get to a position where the bench can be trusted to carry the middle with Patty and Haas both off... currently Jensen, Taupau & Palasia. I'm not sure Kobe will change that after his injury, but he will be a massive improvement on Palasia.

It's another reason why Flegs off the bench helps the balance though... you take Patty and/or Haas off at least you still have an origin level prop to come on and keep the intensity.

It’s not just the players but Kev got his interchanges messed up too. Patty shouldn’t have been on the field when The scored their tries.

For some reason, Kev do not want both Paty & Payne off the field at the same time. He’s making sure at least 1 of them stays on and in the process, burning them out completely. Maybe a lack of trust in other forwards?

Perhaps, things change when Kobe makes his comeback 🤷‍♂️.

Eitherway, our interchange rotation was messed up in the game.

Patty was still on at the 65th minute and was completely fucked. That's why that try was scored, he didn't have the legs to get back to the ball. He should not have been on. We need more minutes from our bench, it's concerning how much Kev is relying on Patty and Payne. Marty and Keenan only got what, 20mins each? They can get more, especially when Kobe is back and replaces Palasia, probably up around the 30min mark so Pat and Payne can get a proper rest.

Jensen should be starting with Flegs off the bench...replace Pat, Payne & Jensen with Flegs, Marty & Kobe. That's a far better bench than most teams in the comp so we should be able to continue to roll through the middle - which I feel we didn't do enough of lastnight. Played much too laterally, we needed to earn it through the middle more to open the space out wide.

Someone really needs to rename the Battle Medal. It’s such a cringe name. Surely there are enough past players or administrators linked to both teams to name it after?!

Unfortunately there is already a Petero Civoniceva medal because that would’ve been ideal (though it doesn’t need to be a “medal”).

No, they almost took the game in the 78th minute. I said earlier we’ll take the 2 points but there was no real win here.

By all means celebrate the win over a team who played close to a full half with Milford as a sole playmaker. I’ll show a bit more objectivity and call it as it is.
Yeh, that effort from the Dolphins was awesome, wonder how long they can keep that up?

Payne got good rest this game, he was off before half time, Patty was out far too long though I agree, because Kev also had Flegs off when Haas was off, I suspect he didn't want to be in a situation where all 3 are off at the same time, but wanted to be in the position of bringing on a fresh Haas and Flegs at the end.

With Kobe there would be enough confidence there to have all 3 of our gun forwards off at once but with Palasia as the Patty option, he doesn't.

Listening to Bennett, Tesi was basically done after the early injury but toughed it out. Which leads me to wonder why on earth was Milford kicking it out to that edge?

Once Wayne is gone they’ll name it after him.

Milfords lack of game awareness is why, because he isn't a communicator he can't get a feel for the game as a playmaker.
