POST GAME POST GAME [Round 9, 2023] Broncos vs Rabbitohs

$5000 for it, so a nothing-burger.
Mmm..burgers

I’m actually not too disheartened by the loss. We were the better team during the first half and save some brain explosions we could have scored 20+. The 20 points they put on us in the 2nd half wasn’t due to poor defending, but rather weight of possession. As long as that type of performance doesn’t become the norm we can sweep it aside and move on.

This moment here was probably a small shining light from the game.
28-6 with 14mins to go. Reynolds puts in a kick which is trapped by Tass who breaks away.
Kotoni gives up chase with 50m to go and Paix eases off abit, Walsh and Herbie come from the far side and Walsh gets there first and Tass steps inside. Cobbo chased through on the Reynolds kick and probably gave Taas a 15m head start and is there to hit Tass after he stepped Walsh before Herbie is there to finish the job.
There was talk on other threads of Cobbo being lazy etc this is a big effort area from Cobbo, Herbie, Walsh and Patty who has played 65mins at this point in the middle chased the whole way even though he was never getting there.

Looking through google, it appears Melbourne had 14 players on the field against the Roosters in their 24-6 win. I believe they were fined $5000 for it, so a nothing-burger.

Good to know for future reference right? They won’t change the charge? Right………?

I can't remember the last time having 14 men on the field resulted in loss of points. Even years back when Broncos got stripped, I'm pretty sure those points just go reinstated a short while later.

Tass: another one of our centres who never got a start.

I thought our forwards would steel up, but more often than not, Souths just marched down the field almost every set. Damn we need to dominate tackles more

While Taupau has been solid, i thought he'd take up the hole Haas left tonight, just not aggressive enough. Carrigan was a workhorse but needed help.

Walsh was kept at bay, did some good, outweighed with some dubious decisions, a lot of the team were like that tonight.

With a few out, you'd think we'd make a better case as a team to be a little better than what we dished out. We were capable of winning, just a few brain explosions and costly errors.

I HOPE we learn from this and BE better especially with Origin just around the corner where we'll be missing a lot more players.

It's scary how Fast Walsh is, he is easily daylight second our fastest player, it's a shame it only gets seen in acceleration burst when he is fastest in both top speed and in acceleration.

For me even with our shit performance it's something that might tick a box for billy for an origin spot.

He is soo fit that he always has that speed on tap at all times.

Round 2 2009 Bulldogs vs. Panthers was the game that came to mind. Even so, I think the Dogs scored in the final moments to win it, so it wasn't like tonight.

The Broncos/Tigers game would have stood, but the Broncos argued the interchange official stuffed up. The NRL accepted the blame then overhauled the system.

Got to say though, Yes Herbie had a bad sin bin that was costly(we where soft asf before to start the second half), he still played good overall.

for the second week in a row he led in Meters(both teams) and post contact as well as tackle breaks, it's a shame he had a brain snap but he definitely plays with everything he has, he will be a huge loss to our team when he goes.

Him and Oates are like our 2nd group of Props in attack doing the hard work.

As Penrith have proven in their dominant years, hardworking outside backs in attack are crucial to go forward for the whole team.

I think if Arthars wants a long term future at this club he has to put some size on in the off season, he is the same height as Herbie but is far too light for the role we need him to do, even though he still has been a solid player mostly.

We were poor but this is a little parabolic of a take from tonight. We're already 7 up with more than half a season left.
This wasn't from tonight, it was from during the week. Run through the ladder predictor yourself and see what it spits out. I just ran with 12 point margins across the board and picked winners. If I was in doubt, I leant the negative and gave our opponents the win. Yes we are in a good position; we also have the most difficult draw throughout the season. Even with our start, it's quite possible we miss the 8 - not likely, but possible.

We can't get ahead of ourselves, Kev needs to pull up the blatant refusal to build pressure. It's the biggest flaw in our game, the impatience/rush of blood. We get that sorted, and there is no-one we can't beat. But until we do, we're not a serious contender. Not yet. But there's still plenty of the year to do it.

Games we probably should have a good crack at winning:

Manly, Sharks (we unusually do well against them), Knights, Titans, Dolphins, Dogs, Roosters maybe, Cowboys, Eels, Raiders will be half checked out as they are not making the finals. That's 10 better than decent chances of winning, even if we drop 2-3 of those we may pick up a game among Storm(x2), Warriors, Panthers, Rabbitohs.
