NEWS Pursuit over as Broncos finally get their man

3 years? Thought it was originally 2. That’s good news.

I can't tell if it's good or bad: a player who rates himself woudn't be eager to lock in what is a fairly low price for a playmaker. Look at what we're paying Milford, Boyd and Bird and none of them seem capable of directing play. And he's being poached to order them around the park.

I'd be surprised if Ponga's not in our long term plans. Getting the old gang back together.

How’s this gonna play out tho? Croft does 2-3 years, Dearden gets a few games here and there and then what - Croft departs potentially after a premiership?

So... 3rd year will be not only the highest value year, but at the player's discretion? I'm not even being a smartarse about this, it's possible we had to offer a third year at a higher value in order to sweeten the deal, when in reality 2 years would have been ample time for us to determine if Dearden was going to come good.
Risk goes both ways. Potentially he kills it this year and after November he's fielding offers from other clubs and we're in a situation where we have to pay up to keep him after just one season. Given his age and his pedigree, he's likely to be a much better player in 3 years time than right now, so there is a fair chance we get three great seasons from him without breaking the bank before we have to pay to upgrade him.

perhaps they’re cooling on Dearden as he was nothing more than steady when he played

Or dearden and Croft are our long term halves and we say bye bye to Milford at the end of 2021 and actually get some value - instead of throwing a mill down the drain every year..

You might find it's Milford on the chopping block by that stage, anything is possible. I actually think it works well as it gives us time to decide what to do with Milford who is due for renewal soon and we'll have seen more of both Croft and Dearden in Queensland Cup by then.

Dearden, Croft AND O'Sullivan. Considering we have an understudy or two for them I am thinking Millionford best produce an outstanding season. Further to that we have Bird who is a very capable 5/8. We appear to have solid depth right across the park. I'm not getting ahead of myself for this season coming. I've learned my lesson.

O'Sullivan is kind of the forgotten man in all this. Would love to see him kick on either here or somewhere else in the NRL. His injury timing sucked as he could well have cemented his spot here last season and been our starting Halfback already.

Who knows [emoji2369]

Least we're not stuck in a situation where we have no contingencies anymore.

Hunt or Nikorima

To

Nikorima or Marshal

To

Nikorima or Turpin

To

Turpin or Boyd

Being in a position of

Croft or SoS or Dearden is far nicer

He showed some good signs. But seems more like a Titans player.. he seemed to get very flustered in his limited games and showed a lack of mental composure

I seriously haven't seen anything from him yet apart from composure.

When you compare him to the likes of other rookie halves like

Brown (EELS) Lewis (BULLDOGS) Walters (STORM)

Dearden hasn't really done anything where you could say wow, what a play! Future star!

He was just, ok, you didn't **** anything up good job.

I honestly don't see what all the hype is about when the likes of the above are coming into grade

You saw us start winning games when he moved into half and Turpin replaced Macca, and then we went to shit again when Turpin took over at half and Macca returned.

I'm looking forward to seeing how we look with Macca nowhere near the team.

Issue with SoS was that he was already the slowest person on the planet, and will likely just be slower now.
