It's easy to be proven capable in a team that gets minor premierships for shits and giggles. This will make him or break him, he doesn't get what he had at the storm.

It can really go either way. He can either fully stand up, train hard like Cronk and hopefully show us what his early hype was about. Or he can show us why the Storm pretty much dropped him for Hughes in the halves.

There are no halves on the market, so we kinda have no choice but to try and be excited. At the very least, hopefully it'll give Dearden some time to develop in QLD Cup.

I view it as a positive signing. Is he a world beater? Perhaps not, but he is an organiser which we need (we have other players who can be game breakers). If he does not play as well as hoped, at least he is relatively cheap for a half with nrl experience and is not locked in for a long contract.

If dearden develops as hoped and is really showing that he has what it takes at ISC level and is performing better than croft, then he takes the first grade position, and then we have a NRL quality half (croft) as depth (a benefit we have not had for years).

Is he an organizer though? It's easy to organize a team with cam Smith in it, I hope he is but it's hard to say until he plays without Smith.

Reckon he's worth taking a punt on for a full season contract? If he's cheap why not have a spin and see if he comes up trumps.

As much as I like Tyson, I'm struggling to see him currently making it at the Broncos. He is more of a 6 than a 7. Really interested though to see how he goes with some decent full time coaching.

He's right. Croft is unproven. I hope he proves me wrong but what we need is an out and out proven game managing winner in the number 7. The age difference with Deardon and Croft isn't much, if we're going with youth and inexperience, we may as well persevere with Deardon at 7.
Yep, we sure do, but as we apparently have less than 400k to spend, that basically rules out every single proven, experienced and 'winning' Halfback in the League. If you want to get Cronk or DCE etc for under 400k, you should probably consider supporting the Roosters, because for every other club that just isn't realistic.

Croft for under 400k is an absolute bargain with virtually no downside risk at that price and a very real chance of some hefty upside. I don't see how we could possibly have done better for the money we've outlaid.

Just to clarify the more balanced view on this, I’ll try to summarise:

- He is a gamble
- He is NOT an elite half at present but does have the potential to be
- He can kick field goals (in my opinion, that alone makes it worthwhile)
- Is a decent defender
- Has not set the world on fire
- Has been halfback in a GF, though his side lost to a team carrying their own halfback the whole game
- Is not on huge money (this one is super important because this club has three horrible contracts worth anywhere from a combined 1-1.5 million dollars that seriously affects any ability to sign the actual type of half the Broncs need
- Croft and Dearden now have to push each other, there are no guarantees
- Milford has needed competition and must now know he needs to get serious
- Croft struggled in the Storm system due to an apparent difficulty with a club legend but is this all there is to it?
- He is the current junior kangaroos halfback
- Very highly regarded junior before debuting with the Storm
- He is a risk but about all the club could afford due to some awful cap management
- Apparently only signed for two years, the same length of Milford’s current contract, so this encourages competition
- There just aren’t any legitimate salary cap concerns as there have been with other signings in recent years and prevents going for an absolutely established half of which there are precious few and absolutely none available that aren’t at grandpa age

Is that an ok summary?
Nailed it.

It's a gamble, but a very, very low cost gamble. The downside risk is negligible to our salary cap, and the upside potential is huge. I honestly fail to see how we could have got a better result for such a small sum of money in our overall cap.

I think the ethic and knowledge he'll bring from having worked with guys like Smith and Cronk needs to be taken I to consideration, it will be great for Dearden, O'Sullivan etc to be able to get some knowledge, albeit second hand.

Yep, I think this is one aspect that's been hugely overlooked. He's coming from the most professional setup in the game and will hopefully have plenty to show our blokes about how the best side in the business approaches their game and their preparation.

All of these guys are mates. They would already know all of this. Plus our coach, as well as a few of our players, are from that same system.

I don't see how what Croft would know matters.

I'm more coming from the perspective of hopefully setting a good example in training and preparation. I think coming from a winning and successful culture could well be a good thing to rub off on our guys too.

I read a story the other week that Cronk wanted Croft at the Roosters rather than Kyle Flannegan. So if Cronk rates Croft I'm happy to have him at the Broncos.

Would be really curious to know what the Roosters had to outlay to get Flanagan. It would certainly put into some perspective what we just outlaid to get hold of Croft by comparison.

Minimum contract and the knowledge that your billionaire boss has never won a golf game against a player.

A setup that Seibold is trying to replicate pretty much and in that case what better player to take than their halfback
