Qld Cup 09

Nah he corked his thigh, looked like a grade 3 cork from what I could determin... at least a week :)

He looked alright at the end of the game. Wasn't even hobbling, he'll play - bet you a Coke.

Hmmmm make the bet this, I bet he doesn't play, and if he does its from the bench.

And make it a ice break.... :)

What do you get if I lose?

Thats a lot of sucking.......... ok ok lame I know.

Any flavour?

Flutterby's sucking abilities aside for a moment, there was a great afternoon of Football at Bash-Up Park this afternoon.

Norths got home in the Colts on the back of a late field goal 19-18 and then the Phins squared the ledger in the Fogs Cup with a penalty goal on the siren to salute 24-23.

In the Q-Cup The Devils got off to a flying start and led 14-0 after as many minutes. But then the rotted stopped and Redcliffe piled on 32 unanswered points to claim victory.

From a Broncos point of view:
Ashton Sims: Started strongly but then went MIA. Was particularly out muscled in the 2nd half by the Dolphins young pack

Jharl Yow Yeh: Grabbed an early try and did look dangerous with the limited ball he saw later in the game. Was knocked out pretty badly with about 20 mins to go but played out the game. He looked as groggy as anyone I've seen, and the Dolphins made the most of it as he made a meal of a couple of bombs late which resulted in Dolphins tries.

Ben Hunt: Made his return from a shoulder injury and was solid. Played wider then normal in a mix of 5/8 & centre. His long kicking game is very good

Palmer Wapau: Played 5/8 and had another big game. Threw some great long balls, and was dangerous where he run the ball, taking 3 to 4 men to bring him down. He pulled of about 5 big hits which left the Norths players winded, including one on Gideon Mzembe, which sent the ball and the player flying. Mzemebe was holding his ribs for the rest of the game.

Matt Handcock: This guy continues to impress. a Broncos Under 20 last year, he has earnt himself a starting spot in the front row for the Phins. He is tough and no nonsense and makes plenty of ground which each hit up normally bumping away the first defender. If the Broncos can keep hold of both McGuire and Handcock longterm, our front row stocks look to be in good hands.

Tom Butterfield: Shared the hooking duties with Andrew McCullough in the Broncos Under 20's last season and has been close to the Dolphins best this season. Was sharp again today, links well with the halves and gets the fowards on a roll on. Definaelty has a future in the NRL IMO.

Thanks heaps! Great to hear good things. I hope Yow Yeh is ok :S

Ok, so what the hell is going on at Easts at the moment?

Lockyer's gone and apparently Charlie Tonga has also retired.

Charlie chucked a hissy fit cause Smith told him he wasn't playing up to standard and dropped him back to FOGs last week.

The frustrating thing is (as we have talked about) they aren't losing by much - in most games they are just getting pipped. Attack is pretty good - their close to the line defense up the middle is sadly lacking.

any more newer updates broncomatt?

From a Broncos perspective?

If so, not a lot to report. With the Broncos back flip on their Under 20's policy we won't have the same exposure to some of the youngsters in Q Cup.

At Redcliffe, Wapau has of course been playing for the Broncos.
Matt Handcock, despite a slightly below par performance last week, continues to impress. I really think he will play front row for Australia one day.

Dolphins 5/8 Tim Yee is on the Broncos books, he trained with them in the off season, but I'm not sure where he fits into Broncs plans. He is still pretty raw but a definite talent, He is equally at home in the 6 or the centres. However he has had a stop - start 2009 with bulging disc in his neck.

Mick Spence & Josh Hoffman are both still out hurt and at least a month away from returning.

If there was any doubts that defence is Easts main problem this year - it's interesting to note they have 2 players in the Q-Cup top 3 try scorers for 2009 thus far.
