QLD Squad 2020

I'm happy to see Coates' name. It's before his time, but he's got a massive ceiling and he's going to be a part of this team in the long term. The experience will do him wonders.

I like the Kerr selection as well. The Maroons need some size in the middle and Kerr would be a handy player to come on and take it to a Saifiti and the like.

Bold are the players I consider givens. Collins and Capewell are close, with Friend and Horsburgh coming down to injury and the make-up of the squad.

We might see a few more bolters from that list.

We're picking 27 man squads, so the other 12 players named should be -

Papalii, Munster, Kaufusi, Welch, B.Lee, Tino, Capewell, Gagai, Su'A, Allan, Friend, Collins

Based on that squad, this is what I would expect Wayne to pick for Game 1, assuming Ponga unavailable -

1. Brimson
2. E.Lee
3. Gagai
4. B.Lee
5. Allan
6. Munster
7. Cherry-Evans (c)
8. Papalii
9. Friend
10. Welch
11. Su'A
12. Kaufusi
13. Arrow

14. Hunt
15. Tino
16. Fotuaika
17. Carrigan / Collins

God help us.

Dropping McGuire for Kerr is one of the dumbest calls I’ve seen
It's an absolute all time stinker. The only debate that should happen for McGuire is if he deserves a starting spot or dropped to the bench. Not making the squad of 27, and then going on to pick a few reserve graders, is insanity. Bennett has always had a few selection shockers in him.

NSW dropped Klemmer so we have to drop someone experienced too.

Who’d have thought we’d see the day Lee is a real chance of playing origin.

There's a possibility he was omitted to be with his mother who has terminal cancer and doesn't have much longer to live.

That might explain it

I thought we'd be seeing it for sure back when he really hit the scene, does that count lol? He looked like he had all the tools to be an elite winger those days.
Agreed, when I first saw him in qld u20's I thought, dude just needs to work on his hands and put on a bit of muscle and he'll be playing for us for years...

nevermind but BIG EDDERS GOT HIS DEBUT.

So after seeing the players that were named it's pretty obvious that McGuire's axing has to do with things outside just his football.

His omission was always a bit shocking, but to see the guys picked in front of him just reinforces that it was not a football based decision.

Josh Kerr is a decent talent, but if you polled 100 Rugby League fans and asked them on face value if McGuire was the better player, or the more experienced player, or the player in better form in 2020, then 100 of them would absolutely answer yes to every one of those questions.
