QLD Team

It's a sure thing, Danny, Coxy and I got real scientific about it. Its a safe bet, bet your ABC Learning Shares on it!

Whoa whoa! Steady on.

It's only game 1.

Bet your Storm Financial investment on it.

On the Hunt v Slater thing, I like the concept of hunt playing the start of the match. When and if the NSW forwards start to tire or get pushed back, you put Hunt into the forwards as an extra ball player/organizer/runner. The only issue is if Qld are getting dominated you would either have to
a) Keep Hunt on the field until your forwards start to dominate, and/or the opposition forwards start to tire; or
b) Make an additional interchange at the first round of interchanges (typically between the 15th to 20th minute in Origin), and bring on Slater for Hunt (instead of Petro or Price), and interchange a forward that is struggling.

Just my thoughts...

If anything I'm just a bit worried about or forwards being up to the pace of the game with two ref's. As is Mal apparently. What owned us in game 1 last year was the lying all over us to slow down the play to ball and thus not giving our brilliant backs space. I've never seen this (very melbourne/bellamy) ploy executed better than it was in game 1 last year.

However this year it's the reverse, they have a big, strong and mobile back row, as well as at least 1 benchmark front rower. If they get a big roll on, I can see our forwards being worn out by half time, with origin this year set to be faster than ever with 2 refs patrolling the ruck... Of course it works both ways, but I think the best answer is to do what QLD forwards in the past have done, and go out there and smash the shit outta them.

Bellamy is a shrewd prick and knows how to manipulate the rules of the great game better than anyone. That's my only concern. Obviously based on history, experience and the comparative teams we should give them a dicken.

Thank god it's Inglis who has to mark jennings - he's a real worry and hodgo struggled

Hes also a worry in defense, Inglis is going run straight over him. Folau on McManus should be another cracking match up [icon_lol1.

I think you will find it will be:
Inglis/Boyd vs Lyon/Mcmanus
Hodges/Folau vs Jennings/Hayne

I think it's going to be the way it has been last year:

Slater in for Hunt, Hunt to the bench. He rests a little there. THen in the 2nd half Johnson gets tired, and Hunt comes in for him, all fresh and what not. Result? Hopefully some big hits and strong running and linking with Lockyer. :D

Agreed, I think Hunt is better equipped to handle the opening exchanges and I believe that he will start the match from fullback with Slater on the bench.

I'm also expecting to see Crocker starting the match at the expense of Harrison. Mick, IMO, is better equipped to deal with the tough opening 15 minutes or so of the match.

Anyone else excited by the fact that Lockyer will be really hungry to win this game, as he missed out last year and will be looking to retire pretty soon from rep footy? Lockyer is defo's gonna be our key man. He's been letting Wally run the show for most of the season but I have a feeling he's going to really step up this game.

Yep. That's why I'm so certain Queensland will win and win comfortably. They want to send Locky out on a winning note, like they sent out Wally in 1991.

He'll let Smith run the show IMO, and let Thurston get into first receiver as much as he wants. I reckon Locky will run the ball more than he has at Origin level before.

He just has to be there when they need him - ie the set plays looking to set up a try and at the dying minutes of the game. It's as simple as that.

I so hate the fact that IF this is Locky's last Origin, I won't be there. [icon_thumbs_do

I am selfish in saying this; however I want Locky to announce his last Origin (I know the pressure, he's prolly not that selfish, etc.) just so the QLD crowd can give him the accolades he deserves in this arena.
