QLD Team

If he's fit and ready, I can't see Mal leaving him out of the team.

Hannant > Scott/Shillington. Either one can make way IMO.

Hannant comes in for Taylor IMO, you cannot possibly drop Shillington or Scott on that performance.

I just don't like the idea of leaving out 1 of the 2 best players we had last night. Costigan is a good origin player, not doubting that he doesn't belong in the team, but I think Scott and Shillington bring more to the table than he can.

agree about shillington and scott - they both played the house down.

i personally wouldnt be putting Hannant in. our forwards did the job brilliantly last night, and to be honest i dont think Hannant has been playing too great this year?

Taylor didnt get much time or opportunities last night, so i wouldnt drop him. the only players i would drop, and its such a shame that it has to happen, is Ballin for Smith, and maybe Cronk. Ballin played incredibly well, his dummy half service was impeccable and he was quick in making the decision to run or pass. he got us on the front foot every tackle.

maybe bring Hannant in for Cronk if we have to? as much as i like Cronk, and he played well in his very limited time on the field, we dont need a halfback on the bench. Thurstons answered his 'hes injured' critics the best way you can, and you shouldnt be replacing your hooker just to give someone else a run. Cronk will be the QLD halfback for the next 5+ years anyway, so i dont think he'd be too crushed at being dropped for the good of the team.

oh and id never realised just how big Shillington is [icon_lol1. . that guy is a freaking giant! played brilliantly too.

Yeah I didn't think of that actually, I'd be happy to put Hannant in for Cronk.

Yeah, Hannant and Smith for Ballin and Cronk would be my only changes. No point in having Cronk out there to reshuffle the backline and Smith wouldn't have lost any fitness with an elbow injury.

I agree Smith is an 80 min hooker ant teams tend to lose momentum when he leaves the field so IMO he needs to be out their for the full 80. have Costigan on the bench that way he can cover back row and hooker, should we get an injury in the halves Smith can easily be moved their.

Ballin had a good game for us but Smith is the no. 1 hooker in the game and it's just unlucky for Ballin. Cronk just needs to bide his time he will be a front runner to partner Thurston in the halve next year one Locky retires from rep footy

Hannant, Civo, Scott and Shillo - what a prop rotation! They'll be up against Perry and White who combined would struggle to even make half the metres of one of these guys. Add Thaiday with his amazing form, Myles who is made for Origin, Harrison's rock solid defence and useful ball playing skills, and what the hell ever, lets go for 7 series in a row.

Actually, when you think about it, that is the perfect change, Smith for Ballin and Hannant for Cronk. Smith can cover an injury to lockyer or Thurston. Boyd can cover an injury to Slater. You could slot Harrison, Costigan into the centres if necessary to cover an injury out there.

Cronk will be in the team I have no doubt. The Selectors an Mal want security in case a key position player gets injured. Cronk also is very capable of playing the same role as Berrigan. Hannant comes in for Costigan or Taylor and Price won't be considered

In that case, I hope it is Costigan.

I like the idea of a lighter option on the bench in Costigan although Taylor plays like a lighter option when you consider he can basically play centre at a pinch. I wouldn't be pissed either way they went.

I'd love to see Taylor at full stride in a Maroons jersey. Costigan goes well but I just think Taylor offers more,

Completely agree Beads, there's an x factor DT undeniably possesses that Costigan simply doesn't.

Only change I would make is Smith for Ballin. Hannant and Price don't get a start unless there is injuries.

If QLD win game 2, Price MUST play in game 3. If he doesn't play this year then his final Origin moment will forever be the moment he got knocked out.

Shilligton was our best forward from what i saw, along with thaiday. Since when do QLD forwards offload like that pearler shillington gave lockyer. so good!
