I'm just wondering who everything thinks we'll run with now Oates is basically a certain starter for Queensland?

Unavailable through rep or injury probably:

Maranta (Most important of all, our all-star)
Opacic
Boyce
Boyd
Thaiday
McGuire
Gillett
Roberts (most likely)
Parker
Hunt/Milford (if there are more origin injuries and the ban is lifted by necessity)

That's a lot out of the team. Kahu probably comes into the centres, Kikorima into the halves, Wallace into the front row, Joffa into the second row (though he is more than a smokey for origin if a few more injuries hit) meaning we need:

1x fb
2x wingers
1x lock
3x or 4x bench

Who would you have fill these spots?

Pretty sure Hunt and Milf won't play Origin, but I wouldn't be suprised at all to see Oates get a call, and hopefully Roberts won't either...

Kahu will most likely be fullback. Pearson (is he available?) or Anderson and Eden to the wing, Alick to the centres (or Whitchurch, shudder), Arrow, TPJ, Su'a, Molo, Ese'ese to fill the forwards spots...

Should actually be interesting to see how they handle FG.

I think we will at least see Seve and Ese'ese get a run in Origin time.

Oh right... totally forgot Seve! Put him in the centres.

I can see Morgan starting for Queensland and Hunt getting a spot on the bench. We're going to be extremely thin during origin if that's the case. This could potentially be what we're forced to work with for Origin 1 at least.

1. Kahu
2. Eden
3. Reed
4. Seve
5. Anderson
6. Nikorima
7. Milford
8. Wallace
9. McCullough
10. Blair
11. Glenn
12. Ofahengaue
13. Arrow

14. Berrell
15. Ese'ese
16. Pangai Jr
17. Funaki

God help us.

I thought Ben Hunt was one of those banned for 12 months after getting caught not paying attention to curfew?

If Boyd plays wing for Qld then I'm sure he will back up for us 2-3 days later

Not sure about Ofa on the backrow edge. I'd probably go with Pangai there and start Ofa with Blair in the front row. Su'a is also a nice option to think of.

lol yeah seeing the whole picture is significantly less totally cool...

though id be gobsmacked to see Hunt get a run this year or next barring a massive turn around in form and significant retirements/injuries. if anything just slightly possibly Milf if he keeps this jazz up but i dont see Kevvie backing down on the bans - would lose way too much face otherwise

which reminds, even tho Napa back nxt year likely presents the possiblity one less fwd is lost (no way you pick moose or gillo before him, parker sure and thaiday on reputation alone) but FWIW small case to argue to keep Glenn and release another 2RW to spare us this kind of pain in the in the coming years..

thx Sproj, very likely to be my favourite BHQ thread for sometime, hah

Roberts wont get picked for origin. NSW are too dumb to pick him. They will pick Jennings/Dugan/Morris as their centres
Assuming Oates, Boyd, McGuire, Gillett, Thaiday and Parker are selected, here is my team

1. Jordan Kahu
2. Greg Eden
3. James Roberts
4. Jack Reed
5. Maroin Seve/Carlin Anderson
6. Anthony Milford
7. Ben Hunt
8. Joe Ofaengahue
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Jarrod Wallace
11. Alex Glenn
12. Jai Arrow
13. Adam Blair

14. Kodi Nikorima
15. Herman Ese'ese
16. Salesi Kung Fu Naki
17. Joe Boyce

Another option would be to put Kodi at fullback and put Waddell on the bench
Its this year we are gonna miss not having reliable backups like Staggy & Lowrie in the squad.

If Oates doesn't get picked (I would be surprised but), I would move him to the second row

Boyce is injured I believe, and I wouldn't move Oates out of the wing. We lack backs more than we lack forwards.

I agree with a lot of the selections being made. I think we'll have a better idea of who will play where as we approach the game so I'm not fussed but I'm at least in the same ball-park with a lot of the selections.

My only concern is the right edge back-row position. I believe it's in the Broncos best interest to pick a player who can hit gaps and is used to the defensive pressure the position holds. Further, I don't think we have anyone who can get through the entire 80 minutes so you'll have to bring in two of them.

So I would give the former NYC captain Brett Greinke the starting position. He's a guy who has really grown a lot over the past few years, has shown some great leadership at both ISC and NYC level and is really coming of age in that environment.

The question is who replaces him?

Brisbane currently have Caleb Timu, Salesi Funaki and Jaydn S'ua on their books. I also believe they have some sort of arrangement with Matiu Love-Henry and Alex Barr although I'm unsure if they're officially with the club or not - I've heard mixed reports. However, one guy I wouldn't be surprised to see again is Aaron Whitchurch. He's done the role for Wayne before and he actually played quite well there against the Knights last year and he'll provide cover in the backs if need be. He isn't a popular selection around these parts, but don't be surprised to see him in the 17 jersey.

This is why I reckon we will need Oates (if available) in the second row and I would shift Blair to lock aswell.
We need Blair & Glenn to tough out the full 80 with Oatesy putting in 60 if possible

Mate there is no chance any of the banned players play Origin this year.
