Rnd #1 Broncos line-up

Rubbish! He got outplayed by someone trying to get into the team , milf didn't need to do anything but get some match fitness and not get injured.
Can we please wait until we get several games in before we point fingers and think that the world is ending.

No ! :brickwall:

I suspect Darius will be. I hope there has been some plans there to use that side of the field for set plays.
Both Milford and Boyd pass well and Oates is one of best finishers in the game. If you throw some dummy runners in between, you can have a pretty lethal assault on the line, particularly from a midfield scrum situation.
We have seen virtually no attack down that side during the trials so I'm hoping they have something they are keeping for the season proper. If not, then what are they doing?
For what it is worth Arthurs also has a pretty good pass so I guess we'll see.

Well, you can bet the opposition will use that side of the field for set plays.

For sure. You need speed to defend at centre more than anywhere else in the front line, I don’t think his body is up to it but we’ll find out.

Milf doesn`t put his centre in a better position .
Dies with the ball then looks like he`s busted as he gets up off the ground like an old man .
why has that not been addressed these last 5 years ?
Decent footballer should know how to follow a runner then accept a pass ?
Turpin`s passing off the ground was not good enough

Milf moving the ball ? Not cramping the back line and stepping back inside ? I`d like to see that !

It's hard to put your centre in a "better position" if your centre is standing too flat. To me that's all about coaching attacking shapes , rather than a failure on Milf's part.

Last game he put Flegler through a nice gap to score. The game before, I remember he had 2 try assists.

Milf did look flat against the Titans. That was disappointing. I will wait until the 1st few rounds to see how well he combines with Croft, who has been electric in the last2 trials.

As for Turpin, I agree. I thought his service was slow and cumbersome. He seemed to lob a pass rather than fire it, as Croft does so well. Again, I'm waiting for the real thing to see what we have learned from last season and how Seibold has planned to change all that sad crap from 2019.

Lockyer has picked us to improve this year from last year and finish 7th.
If that is a genuine expectation from a board member then I dare say we are in for yet another long, shit year.
Yes I know Lockyer is a media person as well as on the board for the Broncos, but there is something about him having us finish 7th which doesn’t sit well with me.
Does that not just send a message to Seibold and the playing group that if we scrape in at 7th the year is a pass mark and all are safe.
If I were a player hearing that from someone like Lockyer, I wouldn’t think there is much expectation on the team.
Either way, I don’t like it.
If I were a player and heard that from someone like DL I would want to go out and shove it up his arse and prove them wrong, then let them know about it.

Way too much focus on attack in these forums. It's always defence that makes the difference between good sides and middle of the road sides.

Seems to me the best sides are equally good at both

Surely based on trial form Boyd doesn't make the squad. Arthars was great at left centre last week scoring two tried outside Milford. Boyd meanwhile was a plodder in attack and defence against a wooden spoon winning titans side.

Arthur's scored two tries against the cowboys in about 40 minutes and was good in defence chasing some players down. Arthur's has to be in the team round 1. Preferably at the expense of Boyd.
Boyd will be picked for round 1.

The truth is, we have a number of players all about the same level. Apart from Oates and Staggs, our 3/4 line this year is looking ordinary (if Bird plays fullback).

Boyd, Arthurs, Coates, Nui, Kahu, Issako, Kennar ... there's not a struck match between all those guys, although Coates and Nui could develop into better players. Farnsworth is the only player to show some heart, but we already have two wingers.

Although Boyd was once again ordinary tonight (3 runs for 22 metres), trying to look relevant on the field, but not succeeding, none of the others have really put their hand up.

1. Bird
2. Isaako
3. Boyd
4. Staggs
5. Oates

While that’s true, and ours is straight up abysmal at times, I know what people want when they talk about the attack. They want a little bit of excitement, knowing our team has the ability to actually put points on when we have possession, and like we are all on the same page in that we actually meant to do what we did to score said points

Because in recent years we’ve relied far too heavily on one player running around or through everyone.

not to pile more shit on Darbs but it looked like he was a part of a set play from a scrum and he dropped it cold.

I’m trying to take my bias out of it and give him a chance at centre but between that, his no effort during the hard graft sets in our own half, and the time he got burnt on the outside like a girl in a mixed touch team for a titans try I have my concerns.

I don’t think that’s piling on at all - facts are facts and those things all happened, so fair game.

Just like it’s fair game to worry that our up-and-coming right centre, Kotoni, seems to have received a hand transplant from Shibisaki over the off season and now can’t catch a ball with the line wide open - twice in 2 games.

Indeed, it seems they might have traded hands, as Shibisaki looked to take a nice ball and run a great, hard line to score for the Knights over the weekend.

Are we in some sort of parallel universe?

No I don't think it does. I sit on a Board of Governors and what we want is realism, not pie in the sky optimism. If we are forecasting a lean year financially, we will report that and say we might only make 5% surplus this year when our benchmark is 10%. That doesn't mean we are satisfied with 5% but you have to balance targets with what is realistically achievable with the current resources.

I call BS . Harder to set up to receive a pass when the passer is running side ways . And taking your space .
Run left till no more room then step back inside like Milf does ? Straightening the attack gets taught to teenagers . How come our highest paid player has forgotten that fundemental ?
If he keeps that up Tom Dearden will need to learn to play on the left side ...[

Yeah good defense keeps you in games even if you are attacking poorly, if you can hold the opposition to one or two tries, its a lot easier to jagg those one or two tries or a few goals to grab a win rather than five.

It also frustrates and puts the pressure back on the opposition if they cant get across the line.

I'd give Boyd the first two rounds to show us some positive signs. If he can't he has to go. Problem I think we have though is I'm not convinced by our other options at center either. Arthars has been ok, which might just be good enough for us right now, but I think it's just the anyone but Darius syndrome right now.
