Roosters Vs. Broncos *SPOILER* & POST GAME TALK

Roosters were like a runner trying to win a marathon by sprinting the first lap of the stadium. The rushing up every tackle tactics aren't sustainable for a whole game. They burnt out and basically the only Roosters forward doing any damage was Tupou, probably because he was on the bench while all of it was happening. Roosters still a pretty good chance to win next week (particularly if the top seeds get up and they play Sharks or Canberra), just need to play a bit sensible.

All of the big forwards who played more minutes than usual to cover for Clinton did really well.

I do have to take issue with everyone bagging the forwards for not "standing up" by not getting into some niggle with the Roosters. Chooks fired up early, put on some good shots and scored a couple of tries. I'm glad the Broncos response was to put their heads down and concentrate on what was important, finishing the game with more points then their opposition. Pushing, shoving and yahoo-ing is just about ego and nothing about winning the game. Well done to the Broncos for hanging in and keeping focussed on winning the game.

Shillington = Sook who was sitting on the bench when the Roosters were winning the forward battle.

Kemp's try was probably the best try I've ever seen by a Broncos outfit EVER

You're not old enough to remember 92/93 then?

I agree, not the best ever, but this year is the first time since the early 90s that I've seen glimpses of the attack we used to be known for. There have been some really spectacular long-range tries, and they've been a lot of fun to watch at times.

That they have icon_thumbs_u

Thank god for Teo and Setu next year. They are some really tough forwards, putting the hits on.

I don't even know who these guys are. Someone want to fill me in briefly? I know one plays for Wests and the other Dragons.

Setu is in the Carroll mould, and I reckon the perfect replacement. Teo, I don't know. He plays like a superstar or a busted and his Tigers teamates bag him for a lack of heart.

Just because our tackles weren't aimed at the head doesn't mean they didn't hurt.
I thought our forwards did try to square up particularly the last 5 mins when we had it won, by that time O'meley was icing his heartstring.

I HATE THE ROOSTERS!!!! They are the grubbiest of grubs.
But they are so dumb they play into our hands with their grubbiness. Shillington, shame on you!

Also shame on the commentators for raving about the hit on Clinton while he looked unconscious!!! It was sickening, OMeley shouldn't have even been playing in the first place after his disgraceful head high last week!!!

I hate The Roosters so Sucked in Gus!!! I hope they get knocked out.

Lol @ braith & pearce, I hope they get selected for Origin again. Lol!!!!!!!!!!

And Lol at the dufus's who bag ennis, and who also sit online when the game is on? what the!

It's called using a laptop.

Just trying to keep people updated if they can't catch the game for some reason. I also enjoy discussing the game with others if they're online.

I don't see what's wrong with that. [icon_shru

awesome game....... but yeah i agree with a few of the sentiments of others about our forward pack, yes theyre mostly young, but damn the Broncos are known in the past for their big forward dominance.. it like an unwritten rule with forwards.... you hit me, ill hit you back and some... more often than not we got hit and hit and hit....yes we won and thats all gravy, them Rootedstaz are all for show! just hope if any other team can think they can bash us up front that we hit back, fair and circle if need be!!!

Just on Ennis - Anyone notice that he does stupid things when our forwards are getting smashed? He tries too hard, simple as that. In saying that, once we get on a role, Ennis is amazing. Catches markers offside, kicks 40/20's, grabs easy 10-15 metres up the middle on so many occasions, crisp service from dummy half - if we win the comp this year, this guy will be one of the reasons why. Guaranteed.

As for our forwards - Hammo I agree!!!! FFS, fire the fack up! If it involves starting a fight then just facking do it! Show the opposition who's boss, show them that you won't stand being beaten! Toughen up boys FFS!

Lockyer and Wallace were OUTSTANDING last night. In fact, their combination with Ennis was probably the best I have seen all year.

Overall, great performance. The first half we got beaten to the shit house in defence, 4 players knocked out, and we were only trailing by 8! LOL! And one of those tries was an intercept, which would have been a try to use down the other end if Soliola didn't take it. The first half wasn't as bad as people make it out to be, we just got shaken up a little, we were alright.

You forgot puts our forwards in hospital with crap reads.

See I think 2 or 3 of our blokes running in and belting O'Meley after his hit on Clinton last night does nothing for us. There was nothing illegal in the tackle and under the current rules (or more precisely Archer's interpretation) 1 or 2 of them would probably end up in the bin, leaving us a man short for 10 minutes in the most important game of the year. It's not as if O'Meley stood over Clinton mouthing off like Gallen and Mason would.

I reckon our forwards responded in exactly the right way - they rolled up their sleeves, took every bit of punishment handed to them and handed out some of their own.

see i think o'meley hitting clinton with his head was careless due to the low percentage, high risk shoulder charge. If they won't ban them, and they won't, then they should penalise any contact with the head if a shoulder charge is done. Head, shoulder, whatever.

The best way to respond was to just roll up the sleeves, pull off the occasional big hit, and win the damn game. We did that beautifully. O'Meley did nothing illegal so what's the point of instigating what could be an all-in-brawl in such a high intensity game? At this part of the season, more than ever, it's important we keep our heads. Thaiday and Carroll did enough in defence to let the Roosters know we were there to play hard as well. It's not the 1970's anymore and composure is very important, and I think the way we won this game last night proved that. The Broncos obviously knew the Roosters would try and intimidate us out of the contest and they did their very best to ensure this didn't happen. The Broncos rock!!

Couldn't agree more Jeb.

But I have to ask one question. Contact with the head is illegal in the NRL when tackling, but it seems that shoulder charging someone above the neck is fine. I'm so farking confused by it (and have been for a while, not just after last night).

my point exactly. Dumbfounds me how people can say it was legal. Contact with the head we were told was illegal no matter what this year.

Precisely.

Pretty hard to get concussed unless you get smacked in the noggin pretty hard. So unless it's an akward fall or head clash... yeah, I just don't get it. If the point of contact is the mouth, there SHOULD be no difference between that impact coming from a stiff arm or a shoulder IMO.

I was under the impression that any contact with the head was illegal. I've seen quite a few shoulder charges get pulled up for illegal contact with the head.

I don't think shoulder charges should get banned, however they need to be harsher with penalties and suspensions if the player makes contact with the head.

This is the misconduct rule, it is very simple and clear you cannot attack the head and does not allow for exceptions .

If Dane Tilse got penalised for his tackle last night O' Meley should have been sent.

A player is guilty of misconduct if he,

(b) when effecting or attempting to effect a tackle
makes contact with the head or neck of an
opponent intentionally, recklessly or carelessly.

Now, if a ref was to rule to the letter of the law he wouldn't stop blowing penalties but in O'Meleys' case it was obvious he attacked the head.

So referreeing gurus Mander and Harrigan looked at it and decided it wasn't deliberate or they don't know the rule.

The Roosters were trying to bash the Broncos out of the game & the chooks were stuffed (no pun intended) by the 30th minute.

The didn't think the Broncos could withstand the 'onslaught.

The shoulder charges they were doing were aimed for the head.
