Our pack was owned that first 40. IMO, that will be sending alarm bells through WB, who in turn would be sending more than aalarm bells through his forwards.
Since when, does one of the pack get K.O.'d and no one either starts a punch up on the spot, or levels up on said offending opposition forward? It's the laws of football. Pigs look after pigs. I was very dissapointed with this.
The greats; Cann, Gee Gee, Tallis, Gillmeister, even Webb- would have all been disgusted by our pack for lack of action. O'Meley should have been left on the ground at some point in the game. He owned our forwards and none responded. Let's not forget we are playing Storm very soon, a team with one of the most vicious (and score settling) pack in the comp. The boys will want to tak some "Forwards only" training over the next week, look each other in the eyes, and reclaim the fact they will fall for ach other.
Apart from the negative of not standing up then. Sims really impressed me last night. As well as Kenny...who always seems to these days. Tunza played his wide running role well, even Parker had moments in the second half, seemed to actually break 2 tackles that I counted. Thaiday was kinda solid, went missing in the first, esp after the Clinton hit and Hannant...hmm. I will grant he's playing better, but I'm still asking for alot more...because I know he has it.
/end rant on pack.
I told a few on here, that this was going to be Bulldogs 06. We got everything against us in that first half. Roosters flopped everything they could (seriously, I was counting 3 tackls a set flopped), they were allowed to lie all over us in the play the ball slowing our sets massivly. And they still could only get across twice....once from an intercept...LOLZ @ Roosters. Not to mention Hodges being held down after his 70 metre break...that should have been a send off IMO. When the Roosters went to Video Ref, and they were checking if Soli' (sp. not even going to bother:)) knocked on, home come they didn't bother checking if a) Wallace was taken out. b) Lockyer was held back by a Roosters player. Deadset in the replay you see a Rooster put his arms out, grab Lockyer, pull him back, then throw a foot out and pull Lockyer down to the ground! This was one of the worst refereeing displays Broncos have had this year.
Hunt was exceptional once again. 08 is his greatest year todate. Hodges pwned Minichello...LOL. Hodges did very well to hold off against Anasta as well, hopefully he knows the tightrope he is walking. Lockyer is god.
Ennis....some great plays, his 40/20 was massive. He also caught them offside a million times, just that Archer had been paid so he didn't call it. However, I was scared to see a few grubber kicks to himself starting to sneak back in. I thought he had ridded himself of them....let's hope next week, he won't be under such pressure and plays as a hooker, not a star halfback again.
We have the ability to take this out if we want it, we need our pack to rise above all else, the backs will do what they have to. It may not be pretty (ala first try after break), but they will find the line, if the pigs give them the go forward.
