Madden had a good year last season in NSW Cup for the Magpies, he's interesting floated around Newcastle and Tigers now and hasn't really cracked it yet.

He was NSW U18 half against Dearden in 2018 at the MCG and NSW came away with the win.

I thought that 21 would be the year Simpkins and Madden became the Tigers spine but it hasn't happened.
Simpkins in particular looks like he could be pretty special, but I suspect you might find your answer in the club crest on the jersey he wears currently. We can hardly talk these days, but the Tigers have a long run of form at being a place where careers go to stall or die.

But that is the thing, with madden and Simpkins in the spine (when not in top grade) in nsw cup, west came second on the overall ladder.

I know nsw cup isn't nrl but why they were not given more of a shot in top grade is perplexing.

I regret letting milf go (surprised?)…

sounds like none of our other halves played well in the trials and Reynolds still hasn’t worn our jersey for being injured/sick. Milf on 2-300k would have been a steal for 22.

We need a long term approach to our spine by poaching players we know can perform consistently at the top Level. Reynolds is a good option for getting what we need but we need to plan his successor by looking at players that are mid twenties when he is off contract and established first graders. We need to do this for most spine positions depending on the development of some of our players in the meantime. We have Moser and Mam as good prospects but they may or may not fulfill their potential. We may need to buy at least 2 experienced spine players to join them.

Roosters do this really well. They got Keary and Tedesco at the right times in their career and now just got Brandon Smith at a similar stage. They bought Cronk a bit like us with Reynolds and then churned through Flanaghan and seem to have a good one with Walker. We need to plan in a similar way with a couple of solid options and some backup options that could go like Flanaghan or Walker to compliment them.

It only works if you have no salary cap.

Okay so sign all the best spine players, that shouldn't be too hard.

No just have a long term plan as to what age and stage to buy players.
Well they got Keary, Tedesco and Smith in their prime. Cronk and Walker type signings are more realistic for every other club in the comp. The amount of elite spine players they've signed in the past 6-7 years is ridiculous.

Not many clubs are that poorly managed that they're in a position to let one of their most promising players just leave.

That's the thing that's alarming about Melbourne, suddenly they've let a whole bunch of them go.

I mentioned in another thread, it would be a good idea to go out and get jock madden from the tigers. A 21 yo old game managing half. He has as played a couple seasons in nsw cup including last year where wests came 2nd on the ladder and he looked good in the trials too. After an apprenticeship under reynolds, he and mam could form a really good halves partnership.

Yes I’ve said a few times I didn’t watch the trials, nobody on here or the media are saying anything overly positive and I saw the way milf played at the back end of last year when the pressure was off….

So as long as he’s never under any pressure we can expect him to kind of turn up or at least just not totally stink the place up?

Sounds like exactly the kind of guy you’d want to throw more money at. Paul White is that you?

Not liking pressure is fine, that’s what Reserve Grade and park footy is for and that’s about the level Milford deserves to be paid at for the amount of work he wants to put in.

He wasn’t the big money guy, we thought he was and it burnt us.

doesnt mean he wouldn’t do a job for us this year at a decent price.

this has probably been done to death tho.

Why’d you have to go and remind me about white? I’d purged him from the memory bank
