I still don't get what Carrigan has done to be so highly considered around here.

I think he's overrated by some and underrated by others... but he's still the 2nd best middle forward the Broncos have right now with Lodge gone. There isn't exactly a lot to choose from right now.

Is he though? He's average but he's a good kid who works hard and has a good workrate that doesn't break the bank. Can't ask for much more out of a prop. A good foil for Haas, that's a good long term prop rotation if you ask me.

Funny you mention Lodge.

He was starting to play really well up to the point he left and, even if he was overpaid, I definitely thought we’d miss him.

We really haven’t, to the point where not only do we look more balanced and more structured (which could of course be a coincidence), I quite literally forgot he was ever here.

Totally agree. We seem to be more cohesive without Lodge and TPJ. I think a few have stepped since they have left.

I need to do another list and right now, if I had to choose a round 1 team with what we've got coming in, I'd go:

1. Cobbo
2. Farnworth
3. Staggs
3. Lee
5. Oates
6. Gamble
7. Reynolds (c)
8. Haas
9. Levi (I really wish he was hanging around)
10. Flegler
11. Capewell (vc)
12. Riki
13. Hetherington

14. Paix
15. Carrigan
16. Robati
17. Bullemor

18. Willison
19. Piakura
20. Niu
21. Mead

Turpin doesn't make the 21?

I don't mind this, outside the fullback position I feel we can challenge the top teams, we have alot of competition of positions, Carrigan vs flegs will be interesting, Carrigan is more consistent but I see a high ceiling with flegs, prop typically is a position that doesn't get the best out of player untill after their mid 20s, ofcourse Haas is the exception but he is extremely special and can't be underplayed but I feel like Flegler can get close to him with more experience ,he is a much more aggressive type that can have more of mental effect on our team.

That saying, Herbie has to go back to wing, with the new rules its one of the most important positions, from being used as a forward for meter gains and then being the finishers on tries, he is the fastest player in the competition at his size I would say and has deadly agility so I think Wing would be more suitable to reach his potential, I would even argue he might even be more useful as a second rower then at centre tbh, he is bigger and faster then most of what we use there already.

Gamble and Reynolds have to be our halves, with Reynolds in the team Gamble can focus more on his line running and grubbers which are his real strength and leave the bigger kicks to Reynolds who is probably the cream of the competition in that regard.

Levi has to be resigned, it is crucial for our team going forward, the media have said it may be an issue with Turpin being in the leadership group and maybe a long term heir as captain but given our teams experience I feel this is way too early to start trumping these kind of things, the fact is Levi is much more comfortable as an 80 min hooker and is much faster with a higher passing skill he might of had a rough time at Manly but his last few games he is playing back at his Newcastle level where he was proper solid level Hooker.

Cobbo is the enigma, if we have him at fullback next year we have to have him at fullback this season before the last game, we need to see how he handles it, he is stupidly young and no way a top team would of put him in this position yet outside of huge injury losses, but we need to try things at fullback, Niu is complicated, I see special things in him but he is also in a similar boat where he has been put in the firing line way too early, outside of signing an established fullback this will be our major issue going forward.

Stats aren't everything of course but those stats listed in his signing make for pretty good reading. Maybe he is already the James/Napa/Woods signing that we were looking to make. I love those defensive stats because that is where I side struggles, even though it has improved recently somewhat.

From what I’ve seen he’s one of those players that is a beast in lower grades but just can’t quite transfer when stepping up to NRL

This sort of signing with those sorts of stats suggest to me that DD usb has been getting a workover. That's the sort of stats you want to see in your first choice props let alone one of your 'fillers'.

It does lead to the question of, given he seems to be more than pulling his own weight, why don't the Cows want to keep him?

I wondered the same about Clifford and Ponga. They're a strange bunch up there.

They wanted Tim Deardon ahead of Clifford, and they've signed Townsend on huge money.

So the Cows not wanting someone is probably the ultimate validation of a good signing.

I had a look at their forum and they consistently have Tim Moltzen (how's that for bastardising his name) as MOTM or thereabouts. Are they seeing something people here aren't?

The Cowboys didn't have much say in the matter with Clifford, he signed with Newcastle first thing once again highlighting how silly the current transfer rules are.

Either you keep playing this half who has been terribly inconsistent and won't be there next year or you get a head start with a developing half.

Dearden is a very touchy subject. Some are putting all the blame on him and his curse, the others are pushing back against it and trying to frame him as the best in a bad lot.
