POST GAME [Round 1, 2022] Broncos vs Rabbitohs

Deadset though, how good was Patty? Straight back from an ACL into the best performance of his career. He's off contract this year, so plenty of clubs would have taken notice.

The entire team looked fit and strong.

Credit to KW, if that performance can be a baseline he'll have a long coaching career and it means we'll never have to see the horror of Paul Green.
Pretty sure we re-signed him

Tbh, i think he was playing pretty ,much like he was in 2020, just with some better footwork now.
I disagree. He always looked like a good work horse but he has definitely gone up a level. He’s bending the line, finding his front; passing, smarter in defence.

I think you have a short memory there. Milford, Oates, Croft, Hopoate, Dearden, O'Sullivan, Joffa, and Kahu just off the top of my head were all worse than Boyd in 2020. Not that i think Darius was killing it, but he did a reasonable job in the scheme of things for a team that had very little quality all over the park. Apart from Kahu, all the others werent broken players in decline, most of them should have been a lot more capable than they were.

Boyd was meant to be the senior figure and the number of times I remember him getting completely embarrassed in the line of defense, it was a joke.

Nah he's went up a level easily mate, he ran with far more intent than he ever has before.

It's like him and Haas were just feeding off each other, Haas as always inspires, but his good mate Patty wants to match him. It was honestly art that first 20 minutes seeing those 2 destroy the rabbits.

Probably our best starting props since Webcke and Civo, hopefully they can have a long term career at the Broncos together.

If he's the only player you can remember getting embarrassed in defence that season then i think you have a problem. Literally everyone did.

He got picked in the centers, fullback at 6. He isnt a center or 6 so its hard to be critical of him there. Fullback he was clearly finished as a player a good 12 months before. Like i said, i'm not arguing he was quality because he wasnt, but i think he did a fair enough job under the circumstances. Its on the coach he got picked at one because he just wasnt capable of playing there anymore. He wasnt anywhere near as bad as he was the year before. We could have had Cam Smith as our senior player that year and it wouldn't have made a difference, we were just a poor side from the coach down. We had plenty of other senior players who were capable of stepping up that didn't.

No point really keep going over it anyway, he isnt playing anymore and nobody is going to change your mind anyway, which is fair enough.

I think he's evolved into a better player now than before his injury, but i have still seen him play just as well if not better. He had some monster games in 2020 especially after Haas went down and was basically the only forward having any impact. He does seem to be bringing more variety into what he's doing and i'm expecting he will really show consistently he's improved a lot.

Carrigan always provided plenty of effort in his game, that was never up for debate but last night there was a bit of impact through the defensive line, that's something that we've all mostly criticised him about.

Having Haas and Carrigan firing, if someone like a Flegler can just find an extra 5-10% off the bench, we're always going to be hard to beat.

Didn't Patty re-sign for a couple more years , after the 'Phins tried to woo him.?

he looked good in the trials

Thats not what i'm saying though. In terms of raw performance, his output and impact in 2020 were excellent. I remember that game where we got flogged by the Storm 46-8 he still ran for about 180 meters iirc. Plenty of games in the second half of that year he was up around the 180 mark a game in a shit show of a side and only Payne was having that sort of impact.

I did say though, i think he's evolved his game and he's a better player now, i was just merely saying i've seen him play just as well. That doesnt mean i dont think he not a better player now. I think he is a better player than 2020.

I’m a bit confused because if he has improved in so many areas and had an output similar to that stage of his career than surely that means he played better?

I read it as he had games like this in him in 2020 like the aforementioned Melbourne game. Personally the game that stuck out to me was against St George where he was like a one man band.

I'm docking Kelly and Walters both points for not pushing Patty out of the way inside the 20m zone. The lead up to the Cobbo no-try was comical.

You can still have had big, big games when you were at different stages in your career when you weren't such a well rounded player. Being a better player doesn't have to mean you haven't played better. No doubt looking at him last night he has improved a hell of a lot in all aspects, but he still had excellent games back in 2020. He just looks like he has more to him now as an all round player.

Tbh, even when he was copping grief last year i was still saying i think people forgot how good he actually was back in 2020.
