POST GAME [Round 1, 2022] Broncos vs Rabbitohs

We were not far away from being them by 18+.

Enforcing players to play on the mark has made the game more enjoyable, as well as the penalties for 6 agains.

We have the framework for a good team. Thank you Kevie.

Also Carrigan totally proved me wrong. He was huge.

1. Isaako - He was really good all game, one bad pass but a lot of good reads and was calm at the back, really good game - 8
2. Oates - Was fairly quiet early but started to really show his worth as the game went on, some tough carries and a vintage giraffe-like try - 7
3. Staggs - Was quiet and some really poor defensive reads but he just puts players in two minds and the right edge is going to be an absolute weapon once they gel - 6
4. Farnworth - He was a bit rusty and that is understandable after his lack of trials and his speed and dependability in defense is great, one dumb penalty - 7
5. Cobbo - Absolute hot and cold but more hot than cold, he is a weapon and is so good in defense, some really good try savers, he looks like he's improved - 7
6. Walters - Started really, really quiet but as the game got tough, he stepped up big time, very impressive back end of the game - 7
7. Kelly - He was really good in defense, threw himself around and really kept the Broncos rolling, will likely partner Reynolds well - 8
8. Haas - What more can you say about the guy? That win will be huge for him and the excitement that it will generate around the club, he was absolutely immense - 9.5
9. Turpin - He was a wall in defense but as always, offered nothing in attack, even managed to turn back time on the slow run he did where he earned a penalty - 7
10. Palasia - A bit of an unsung hero in my opinion, he was great and really held his own and the middle together, this was a great night for him, he's a keeper in the 17 moving forward - 8
11. Capewell - WOW!!!! He won us the game and who would have thought it?? His field goal was sweet (not too sweet obviously) and he saved a couple of tries with some last ditch efforts, what a buy - 9
12. Riki - Was fairly quiet but did his job, I like it if this is his base level because it is a lot to improve on - 6
13. Carrigan - Likely his best game for the Broncos, he was an epic one-two punch with Haas and throw Flegs and Kobe in, this forward pack is suddenly scary, really scary - 9

14. Roberts - Did he play? Nah kidding, of course he did because you couldn't miss it with the rubbish passes he threw in the back end of the game - 3
15. James - He helped to really keep the middle glued when the starters were off and he played a really solid game, having that experience there off the bench is great for us - 7
16. Kennedy - Horrible game because he came on and did two really dumb things that last year would have cost us big, a lot of players have upskilled, he doesn't seem to have unfortunately - 4
17. Robati - Not used much but ran with venom, almost scored too but hard to score him higher due to low game time - 5
Okay, I'll ask politely, what two really dumb things did he do?
I know about the poor play the ball so, what else? I just watched the replay and I closely watched Kennedy and it looked to me that he made his tackles, ran hard and made metres so? A 4? Carrigan a 9? Joking, surely. Thought he did a really dumb thing too 'that last year would have cost us big'.

Yep, 1 stray pass was about his only really blemish. As somebody said earlier, Staggs was probably our worst tonight. Seem off his game.
They were rushing up (offside too) on him all night and he didn't deal with it well. Hopefully Reynolds can capitalize on them moving up on him when he's back if teams want to do that.

The worst rating was Staggs. Should have been a 5. Staggs was bad. Bad defensively and lots of errors. Dumbest of which was throwing it over sideline on second.

yeah, funny reading before and after . I'll put it down to copping mechanisms.
Not everyone. I tipped a good performance and backed them with good hard earned cash so I had belief as well as others on here.

Who threw the pass for the Kelly try? Was it Cody "intercept" Walker?

Yep, and I'm very surprised Walker didn't see that coming. You could see Kelly was going to go for the intercept.

Very soon after gave away a 6-again on the last while we were defending our line. Look closely-er next time.

Whilst he doesn’t bring the impact of Robati, I actually like James on the bench. Old head who doesn’t really let the team down.
I agree to an extent in theory but I’m not sold on James even though I was a big fan of his signing. He looked really off the pace in the all stars and the trials. Seems to have dropped off a bit since last year.

Only ran for 19 metres in 35 minutes. I do like his defensive work though, he’s good at slowing the play the ball.

He gave away a six again on the fifth tackle on the try line by holding down to long, I’m pretty sure it was t long after the play the ball.

You can’t have it all and our fullback options are serviceable and can do a job. But if we just had an above average booker we would be a different team and well intrenched in the top 8 I feel.

Sorry, it's you who will need to watch again. It wasn't for an infringement, the 6 again was for getting a touch on the ball whilst making the tackle you thought had an infringement. Cook was calling for 6 again because Kennedy made contact with the ball and the ref seemingly was tipped off.

Staggs wasn't at his best but he was not bad AT ALL. half those chances that he made errors on don't happen with 90% of the other centres in the nrl. He also defended extremely well. He covered his inside and outside shoulders very well. 1 try as it was riiiight in the corner from the rabbitohs left side attack is nothing to scoff at. That side of their attack was the best in the league last year, and walker is still there no matter the other losses..
