POST GAME Round 1 - Broncos vs Eels

They completed at 50% in the first half, and then when they played normal footy put on 24 unanswered points. I'd say they did it pretty easy.

The concern is losing a home game, against a team that plays horribly, and most fans are happy because the team tried hard.
Don't you think part of the reason the eels were horrible was because we tried hard? Alot of their errors were from great defensive pressure and big hits. The boys lifted their defence big time and smothered the eels and it frustrated them. There was some great one on one contact from Glenn, Turpin and a few others that knocked the ball free.

im sorry to break it to you but if you honestly thought this year the broncos were going to be a top 4 contender pushing for the title then i got bad news for you.

we were diabolical last year not even playing to nrl standard for majority of season.

you just cannot turn things around that quickly in this sport without major roster changes you just cant.

Most of us know this and we love the broncos. At the moment we just want them to have passion in the bloody jersey and perform to nrl standard which they well and truly did.

you have to remember eels are considered a top 4 team and they played like it in the second half. and without injuries and ref issues i think most nrl fans in general think broncos would of won that.

I just cannot understand how any true passionate broncos fan cannot be happy with how they performed. You can be disappointed with the result but still be proud of the team.

Another little improvement for me was how TPJ went. First game back no stupid tackles no sign of hot-headedness, it was like the Petro mentorship was already starting to take effect. He got through the game and was well under the ref's radar for a change. In the ref's debrief he won't be mentioned which can only be good for next week. The more he stays out of the headlines for infractions the less likely he is to get pinged even on suspicion.

Nice start Tevita!

After watching the game I thought we did pretty well but fatigue plus a couple of iffy decisions got us in the end. Even with my Carrigan tinted glasses on, can't work out how people can be so critical of him. He made errors, no question, but yet again for whatever reason he was playing under fatigue and it had an effect. Never stopped looking for work and tried his guts out. Not really sure what more he could do.

Turpin was great, but he still isn't an 80 Min player. He looked gassed at times and he won't be able to play every game at the intensity he did last night. He will burn out. Can't really be over critical of any of the guys really. They gave it everything. Could be a bit nit picky with a couple of them but for a first hit out we were decent.

Just a shout out Tom Opacic. That play where he got back to deny Turpin ( even though I thought it was a try ) was a massive play. We really should have pushed for him. Does all the effort plays and 1 percenters. Solid and just does his job. We could do with a couple like that.

I still can’t believe we didn’t go for him or one or two other solid first graders in areas of need.

To be fair to the Broncs though, until Coates went off, Farnworth and Niu were both electric.

Herbie was. Not sure what I make of Tesi at center yet.

I think the rotations could use some work, but I assume plans changed with the injuries. Riki in particular will be more effective if given a breather. TPJ should be capable of playing more than 40mins.

David Mead losing the ball early in the 2nd half was the biggest momentum shift. The boys couldn’t get out of there half from there on . Proud of the boys though and the effort with no fresh legs available .

Yeah need to slow down on the Riki hype train a bit.

I just watched a replay of the Turpin 'no try'. My days how did Croft **** that. Hopefully not in the team next week.

Really proud of the team last night, despite not getting the win they played like the Broncos we all know. Refs completely fucked us and injuries had us out on our feet but they did everything they could.

That is really unfair. You want to drop a player for one mistake? You’d be dropping all of Milford, Flegler, Carrigan, Riki, Mead, Farnworth and Isaako.

Croft wasn’t perfect but he was one of the better players last night. Will be one of the first picked next week and rightly so. Put it this way, he showed more last night than Dearden did most of last year.

Riki apparently missed 10 tackles last night, hopefully he sees less time next week.

He shouldn’t have played 80 but what can you do with one player on the bench? He was also often the one leading the kick chase before he ran out of gas. For a really young and experienced guy, he did well.

It would be interesting to see a break down of when those missed tackles occurred ... i wonder if they just started piling up because he was out on his feet and we literally had no one left to interchange him with
