POST GAME Round 1 - Broncos vs Eels

Carrigan needs to be moved on / dropped. Too slow , no dynamics and really bad defense.
Milford looks exciting so far, I enjoyed seeing him lambast Turpin late in the first half for giving poor ball.
Was a win if the refs had not made silly calls.

so other then the eel players walking off the mark and not playing the ball correctly and how insanely offside they were here is a list of other shit calls that could of easily been called our way that didn't.

1. the try the eels hooker burrowed over for. The ball never touched the ground you can tell by the guilty look on his face he didnt get it down and in past it woulda been sent upstairs as a no try and video ref would of had to find a angle where hit hit the ground which there was none

2. that call against mead that he played at the ball which might be the one 50/50 i can see going either way but it still went against us

3. the no 6 again call off milfs kick this one is just 100% incorrect.

4. that horrible blatant shepherd that sivo ended up making a further 10-15 metre to start one of there sets. for years now as soon as you take advantage of a shepherd whistle is blown its actually one of the most consistent rules the nrl has stuck to which is why u see players just diving on ground once they shepherd, but for some reason it was deemed fine here.

5. and finally the worst of all the turpin no try. I'm sorry I just cannot see how that's not a try or at worse a repeat set for the eels player hitting it out at same time.

oh and dont get me started how how many repeat sets they seemed to have got compared to us.

in the end i'm proud of the boys immensely but the NRL can get fucked with there biased calls against us

I think if it went up as a try it would’ve been given? Personally I think it was a try but can cop it given it went up as no try

the only issue with that is the ref had no problem with turpins put down he only asked about weather to confirm if croft dropped it so it still makes no sence why it wasn't a try or a reapeat set at worse

Yeah that’s what I wasn’t sure about, if the ref has doubts about 1 aspect of the play can that be passed by the vr then another aspect be pulled up because of doubt

Could feel the hurt and pain in Milfs interview at the end. He played well after a long lay off, and definitely took the result to heart.
The myth has been debunked, Turpin is an 80mn God. Was a superstar cooling his heels in ISC all this time.

Fucck you video ref, **** you arseholes...!!

Titans don't have a hope, fucking refs wont be saving em this time...we winning by 20+ next week!

Also, just as a final note on this game. I left our trial match against the Cowboys with a feeling of dread of the incredibly long year to come, I don’t have that feeling after tonight. While there’s still a hell of a lot to work on within the team I believe the players are buying in at this stage which is where we need to be to make any sort of progress.

I think the Turpin no try is a 50/50 you live with. What was really dissappointing was the Ferguson try. It's a clear knock-on that wasnt even questioned. But in the end, that's football.
What will bee important is how we approach round 2. They were obviously pumped for round 1, but if they are any chance they will need to put that kind of effort back-to-back weekly, and that's a lot to ask.
Turpin especially, has set himself a huge precedent and I wouldn't be surprised we have a utility for round 2, just so he doesn't run himself into the ground.
I was fine with milf taking the chances when he did as we behind, chasing the game, with the petrol tank empty.
He also needs to be smart enough (or more likely listen to Alfie when he tells him to) to dial it back and use the corners like we did towards the end more often if we are in front.
It will go against his nature, but that is what a mature playmaker needs to do. Play the game the opponents don't want you to.
A steady supply of the ball in hand is vital in this new era, and teams in front need to learn to treasure possession and territory.
Too often we get caught in the corners and too little our opponents. Tonight we were much better but there is still work to do, along with lazy defenders not following the point of contact when off the ruck.
Our defenders outside the point of contact, as opposed to those tackling need to be aware of second phase play. That is what cost us. Second phase from offloads and broken tackles needs to be addressed because more often than not we tend to go to sleep as the players make contact, believing the work is done.
Rushing defence is great but that concentration is more important.

I love Patty but seeing him on the ground on the side of the ruck as he's too slow to get to his feet after rolling out of the tackle was really painful especially given the Eels took advantage of that.

But other than that, light years ahead of 2020. Was expecting Eels to dominate but to go into halftime with a lead was great. Shame we couldn't hold onto it.

Fucked if injuries are long term. Milford was good. Croft and Herbie both dropped crucial balls which lost us the game. Still can’t do anything in the second half. Cardigan let’s way too many offloads get away and doesn’t ever get to marker.
Better than I thought we would do, but we are still a bottom 2 team.

He’s Lways slow at marker. Overrated for sure.

Totally dependent on injuries, which are already unfortunately extensive, I could see us making 7 or 8. If the injury trend of the last few years keeps on going as it appears it will, well the spoon is unfortunately still in contention.
