POST GAME Round 1 - Eels vs Broncos

Yeah, Roberts said, "I've got more speed than Oxford Street", and Joey loved it.

Only got to 2nd gear in attack. Plenty work on , just what you'd want.
I'll pay that.

A blow out would likely gave gone to their heads.

Keep them humble, keep them hungry, keep them honest.

My initial impressions of the game was the physicality of the performance. It wasn't a pretty game by any means, but for a Round 1 clash, both teams really went after one another and never gave up the ghost at any point. No Foran, no Norman - I thought the Eels pack showed plenty of heart and their boys scrapped and clawed for everything tonight. I know everyone is going to point to that 61% completion rate from Parramatta, but some of the plays they put together will crack plenty of sides so the defensive work from Brisbane was very pleasing.

I feel sorry for Greg Eden but would give him a shot next week before I put the line through him out-right. It couldn't have been easy making your debut away from Brisbane up against the best centre and winger pairing in the game and being expected to stand-out. While his work under the high ball was disappointing, the headline a lot of people are overlooking is that Parra's lethal right edge was kept silent on the scoreboard. Last year no other side scored more tries down that specific edge, and that was before Jennings to the fray, the Broncos kept them to nil.

Hopefully Jack Reed recovers in time to line up next Friday against the Warriors. Without Kahu and Maranta, the Broncos backline is beginning to look a little frail and I think they need that familiar set-up against the Warriors.

Brisbane didn't bring their A game, but the boys showed enough grit to get themselves home against a determined Eels outfit. A good first hit-out for the season and I'm glad the monkeys off their backs early.

Oates was awesome

Gillett was awesome

Milford was good

Roberts was quiet - though not surprising since most of our attacking moves come down the left hand side of the field. if we can learn to use our right hand side and Roberts more we will be even more deadly.

Macca's 40/20 shows why he should be kicking more... he has a good kicking game when he chooses to use it,

Eden will be BHQ's scapegoat for the 2016 season (we always have one). while certainly not a great game from him, it wasn't as bad as people are making out. he had a couple if nice runs, some good defence (especially that hit on Radradra) and that bomb he dropped would have been hard for nearly everyone to take, he was running backwards and it was one of those swirling bombs that give even the best catches nightmares. I think we should give him some time before we string him up (especially as Kahu is out for a few weeks now as well). Guys like Milford and Hunt had some games like that last year as well. how he responds to it will show his character.

McGuire was good in his first competitive game back from serious injury

Thaiday was good off the bench.

I'm not much of a fan of Wallace and would have liked to see how Ese'ese goes in the top grade, I think he could offer us some good impact off the bench.

POTS

3- Oates
2- Gillett
1- Moose. this was a tough one, but IMO Moose just beat out Milf and Thaiday

Eden had a couple crappy moments but he also has some pretty good ones. . I'm ok with it. He'll be better next week.

Sorry to hear kahu could be out 4 weeks.. hopefully reed is close to coming back.

Hunt had an off night. Needs to get better. And will.

Milf was solid tonight. Loved his work.

Gillett by far best on ground. Fantastic defense, hard runs - sweet line break.

Parker's kicking was off sure but it was a pretty windy night. You guys are too harsh haha

Eden had too many errors but it was his first NRL game, I think he can learn from the experience. With Maranta, Kahu and possibly Reed out he won't be dropped.

If Reed pulls up alright for Norths, I expect him to slot right back in next week.

I am mystified at why we have a gun centre in Roberts on the right, yet direct most of the attack to the left?

Eden was timid hitting the ball up and made a heap of mistakes... Worst debut since Whitchurch...

we did have a gun center on the left, but he got injured

Our attack focused on the left a lot in the last couple of years, i think it will take us some time to redirect some of that play to our right hand side

I'll be less gentle. I think Hunt just hasn't got it together yet on the right. You don't buy a gun centre and not focus on using his skills.

But the no tackle count thing on nines coverage was actually annoying

P.S. Beau Scott has one of the most punchable faces in the NRL

Was the same on Foxtel.

I'd love for someone to just iron that prick out.

I expect Roberts to be unleashed around round 4-5 personally.

I think young Joe deserves a special mention as well. When he finally came on he was the dominant forward out there and that is exactly what you want from a bench forward. He took an awful lot of pressure off the guys who play the big minutes.

Oates > Radradra
he is a fucking tank and yet people want him moved
**** no I say to that
