Round 1 Lineup

1. Isaako
2. Farnworth
3. Copley
4. Niu (Staggs when he is back)
5. Coates
6. Milford
7. Dearden
8. Haas
9. Turpin
10. Carrigan
11. Glenn
12. Oates
13. Pangai Jnr
14. McCullough
15. Asiata
16. Lodge
17. Flegler

The issue for me is that the way he wants our forward pack and assuming we have McCullough/Turpin on the bench either Riki/Asiata must miss out on the bench. To me we have an overpaid prop too much and Oates being in the second row from having the most ideal forward pack and bench rotation

that way we would have
8. Haas
9. Turpin
10. Carrigan
11. Glenn
12. Riki
13. Pangai Jnr
14. McCullough
15. Asiata
16. Bullemor
17. Flegler

Based on what Kevvie has said and assuming no other signings

1 Isaako (noted by Kevvie to be leading at this stage)
2 Herbie (left wing.. played left center last year, but played left wing in ISC.. think he's most suited to wing and we desperately need his carries)
3 Copley (I believe he's played a lot of left center throughout his career. Not sure if left side was his position in juniors, but he played there for us and the titans)
4 Arthars?? (not sure it will be Niu as he's been training at fullback... could also be Coates with Arthars or Kennar on the wing)
5 Coates (Could also be Mead/Arthars/Kennar if Coates is shifted to right center)
6 Milf (could even be captain 😲 😲 )
7 Dearden (I'd say he is currently leading the way, but Kevvie could also want him to spend a year in ISC)
8 Haas
9 Turps (Kevvie dropped Macca from origin so he's aware of the limitations)
10 Lodge
11 Glenn (Could also be Riki (right) and Oates (left)... not a lot has been said about Glenn in the media, etc. so he might be shafted to the bench)
12 Oates (Noted by both Oates and Kevvie that he has been training on an edge... I think he is a solid option in the back row)
13 TPJ (Kevvie has spoken about him being a lock or at least back into the middle)

14 Macca
15 Carrigan
16 Flegler
17 Riki (covers middle and edge... high impact player... Could also start in the back row for either Glenn or Oates)

It's a very young bench looking at that so Riki probably starts in the back row on the right... with either Glenn or Oates dropping back to the bench.

Right center will be interesting. It seems a placeholder position until Staggs returns so does Kevvie go with a risky move and put Coates in there to see how he goes or does he go the less disruptive route and keep Coates on the wing with Arthars, Niu, etc. fighting it out for that spot until Staggs returns.

Glenn imo shouldnt be a lock in for one second row spot both starting spots should be up for grabs.
??? Just curious who said Glenn should be a lock... I may not be understanding what your saying but just don’t remember seeing someone say Glenn should be lock

A lock as in should be playing regardless, not lock as in 13

i'm not sure anyone has said that either.

with a new coach, unless your name is Darren Lockyer, Cam Smith etc, i don't think there are ever lock-ins

All bar one of the hypothetical 17 in this thread have him in the second row and over the last few years he has had a mortgage on that spot, all im saying is he should have to work for that starting spot not that someone has promised it to him.

tbf, all that means is tha most people believe he is one of our 2 best backrowers in 2021 ... none of these teams mean he has been promised a spot in the 17.

I have no doubt that he will have to prove throughout the pre-season to the man that matters, that he deserves one of those starting spots.

I also agree that he should have to work for it and that no-one should be a lock-in for a spot

We have no second rowers. Haas and Carrigan have the characteristic and mobility to improve the edge if we don't recruit. A risk I admit. Oates was awful but still better on the wing. If he recaptures his best then there are threats on both wings. Dearden to play q cup at the start of the season. Won't last the year if he starts in NRL. Farnworth to be CNK type option at the back.

@Xzei yeah it was more a ‘team I think’ rather than a ‘team I want’ list

Walters says he's playing Corey Oates in the forwards:

“We’ve been training Corey on the edge. That’s where we feel he is best suited for us at this time. He’s played a lot of games for us on the wing but not a lot in the back row so it’s all about the next 10 weeks or so getting him accustomed to a different position and the different challenges that comes with it."

I think he will go ok in the back row, albeit starting from the bench.

He showed he knows how to run a good line at least.

He does actually tick a lot of boxes as a Bench Utility option to be honest.

With so many guys capable of big minutes Brisbane could run two Middles, a backup Dummy Half and then Oates as the Edge/Outside Back coverage off the Bench.

Yep, he can cover the outside backs and back row. Shame about the price, though.

With our need for bigger bodies to shore up the defensive line, we should have only one 9 in the team without cover. Much as I hate to concede, Macca should be that 80mn hooker. A specialist hooker on the bench is just a waste in the current game.
Oates can cover as a forward/back(HIA) or one of our reserve halves takes the 14 spot.
