Round 1 team prediction

ive never thought of it like that Coxy, but you're are probably right. we may have just been another Crushers/Gold Coast Seagulls

Funny thing is - Lewis at the Gold Coast did nothing to turn them around. While you could argue that was as much linked to how the club was run and the financial situation but he couldn't attract quality players when he moved there at age (?) and to be honest when the Lewis era didn't produce any real success or a stronger roster as a result of his involvement at the Seagulls - that was really the end of the club's chances of being relevant in the 1990s given their financial struggles.

Yet I'd completely agree that his presence at the Broncos in year one was huge in making that roster & club what it was and then turned out to be after he left. It's just a shame for the Gold Coast it didn't happen for them...

I think that's the difference. His signing was part of the hype of the new Brisbane team coming in in 1988. It contributed to the buzz and expectation, and brought other players to sign (possibly taking them away from the Gold Coast).

Problem with the Coast was that by 1991 when Wally arrived they were cellar dwellers, in financial strife, poor crowds, a joke in the competition. Not even Wally Lewis could save that.

I just watched a video on the Broncos website and they were interviewing Te'o and he seemed like he didn't want to play in the centres at all. After watching it and seeing his reaction to playing in the centres I wouldn't have him as an option there now anymore.

1. Josh Hoffman/Corey Norman/Gerard Beale
2. Antonio Winterstein
3. Alex Glenn
4. Israel Folau
5. Denan Kemp
6. Darren Lockyer
7. Peter Wallace
8. Nick Kenny
9. Andrew McCullough
10. Ashton Sims
11. Ben Te’o
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker
14. Tim Smith/Ben Hunt
15. Lagi Setu
16. Josh McGuire
17. Scott Anderson

Pls learn from your mistakes and don't pick Michaels Henjek. If Hoffman is out, give the youngster Norman a go. I'd be happy with Beale as well. Tim Smith for a utility spot. He can rotate with McCallough/Wallace/Lockyer if Broncs are cruising in the match.

This is the team that i think should start in round 1. Now, I haven't actually seen any trials this year, but from the reports i have heard on here and from people who have gone to some of the games, i would go with this.

01. Corey Norman - Seems to be a very promising kid, also as a 5/8 gives us another playmaking option.
02. Antonio Winterstein - good first year in the top grade in 2009, should keep his spot.
03. Gerard Beale - i have liked what i have seen from him before his injury last year, with Hodges out we need a new center
04. Israel Folau - speaks for himself, a real sntrike weapon for us
05. Denan Kemp - With Yow Yeh out a good selection on the wing, hopefully he can regain his 2008 form
06. Darren Lockyer - enough said
07. Peter Wallace - really good form at the end of 2009, forming a good combination with Locky
08. Nick Kenny - developing in to a solid front rower possibly on the verge of origin selection
09. Andrew McCullough - loads of talent
10. Ashton Sims - needs to find some consistancy, good form at the back end of 2009
11. Sam Thaiday - enough said
12. Ben Teo - also needs to find some consistancy, good form at back end of 2009
13. Corey Parker - first choice at lock, needs to step it up or Glenn will take his place.

14. Alex Glenn - Very versatile, our best utility.
15. Scott Anderson - IMO, a good signing has played in 2 GF's for the Storm.
16. Lagi Setu - very hard hitter, another that needs consistancy.
17. Josh McGuire - Potential, we need to develop him, ready to have some time in the top grade

That side looks perfect to me Foordy! After the results so far and all reports I have read both here and on other sites that is about our best option.

Top side Foordy the addition of Kemp on the wing will help the Broncos dominate this season!! Try time oh yeah.. I don't think our forward pack is as poor as made out also. Alll of our forwards should be improving not declining so I am excited.. Go Kempy

The point you make about our pack improving is a good one all the guys there have plenty of talent and as you say should be improving rather than declining. It is critical that Sims really plays consistent this season and gives Kenny a reliable front row partner with some experience, if he stands up we have to good quality props with some talented guys off the bench helping. My predictions for the season are improving from where they were even with the injuries we have suffered.

We also have Anderson who is a no frills prop alot like Kenny, hopefully we don't lose too many players through Origin also. I'd love to see Lockyer and Wallace in Broncos colours through Origin.

Well I cannot imagine NSW will go for Wallace again seeing as they have dropped him twice now, with Hodges out or only just back I would say our only certain players will be Lockyer, Folau and Thaiday with Kenny an outside chance for QLD.

The thing with the side that i named is that should we get an injury in our halves we have Norman who is capable of playing there and we don't need to carry a half on the bench. should we lose one of our halves we can easily move Kemp, Beale or Folau to fullback, Norman to fill in for the injured half and Glenn into the centers
